That was Billy Preston on the electric piano. He has the honor of being one of the few individuals who actually recorded with the Beatles. Obviously everyone is going to have a favorite Beatle song. I think one of their greatest masterpieces is "She's leaving home" , "A Day In the Life" is also one of my favorite classics.

Billy Preston plays electric piano on this tune. Lennon dubbed him "The 5th Beatle" as Billy played with them on the Get Back sessions. Billy passed in 2006 of kidney failure. I love the Beatles, they covered many genres IMO and are, unquestionably, the greatest rock-n-roll band planet earth has and will ever see. All members were icons in thier own right.

The Beatles were unique. They are their own genre. They transcended "pop music," creating something which will live for centuries, like what we now call classical music. Lennon and McCartney were/are 2 of the greatest composers of the 20th century. They started out playing 1950s-style rock & roll, but constantly grew under the tutelage of their brilliant producer, George Martin, who was sometimes called the "fifth Beatle." My first-and-forever favorite group.

There are several different versions of this video...one of them has the camera linger for a lot longer on Billy Preston....he can clearly be seen on that version. I think he would have added a lot to the bsnd if he had actually joined. I know John snd Paul could both play the piano....but having a professional keyboardist would have added to the band.

I saw a comment here that this performance was in 1970, actually this little unannounced concert on the rooftop of their Apple label offices was January 30, 1969. Must have been a little chilly up there in January. Listen to the studio version of this, it's great. Another really good live video that I've seen a number of reactions too is the performance of the song Help from Blackpool Night Out from 1965. This is in great color and really good audio for that time of a really legendary song. Lennon kills the vocals along with great harmonies by Paul and George, you'll love it, that I promise. So happy too see you two do the actual Beatles. Their recording career between 1963-70 is unparalleled. There have been some great bands over the years like The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Queen amongst others, but nothing like these four boys. You know these bands as soon as you hear them, the sound never really changes. The Beatles sound was always evolving constantly changing. Listen to them in 64 and then 67, you wouldn't know it was the same band. These guys were truly one offs, there will never be another Beatles. The Beatles and Bob Dylan, the two all time, all time GOATS and it ain't even close ! Hope too see more Beatles in the future, they will never Let You Down, get it ? ✌️☮️💕

Part of the brilliance of the Beatles is that they often begin their songs with the chorus, which makes the song very catchy. By the time they finish the first verse and hit the chorus, you've already heard it once and you are ready to sing along. "Get Back, "Eleanor Rigby", "We Can Work it Out", "I Feel Fine", "A Day in the Life". The list is endless

The bass lines in this are a wild collection of artistic choices. They are so unexpected and unique. For non-musicians these songs just sound like really nice sounds tumbling favourably together. But I can't imagine how awesome they must be for people who know more than me. Because even with the composition and playing knowledge I have, listening to The Beatles is like a Master Class in performing, composition, arrangement and producing. Every phrase has you thinking, "Who would even think of doing that, like that?"

Last time The Beatles would play together live, impromptu concert on the rooftop of Abbey Road studio, it's cool to watch the people around the area reacting to what is going on, the significance of the moment was fleeting at the time. Even the police are laying back and just watching, of course they eventually had to shut it down without realizing the historic importance of what they were witnessing and actually became a part of. Magnificent performance, albeit short, and John's famous last words after the performance in regards the The Beatles who would soon disband and never play together again: "On behalf of myself and the band I hope we passed the audition".

In Jackson's "Get Back " documentary, it's fascinating to see how Billy Preston was involved with the Beatles. His licks on the Fender Rhodes added a layer to their songs during the sessions. He met them in Hamburg in 1962 while backing up Little Richard. He was 16! It was while he was backing Ray Charles in London that he hooked up with them again in 1969.

She is sitting off to the side, Yoko, " the love that has no past". A lot of controversy within the band over her, some believe that she was the catalyst that ended the Beatles. He left Cynthia his first wife and son Julian for her, the song " Hey Jude", Paul wrote for Julian to help him get through the divorce.

The electric piano was being played by Billy Preston he was kind of a quiet fifth member of the beetle in this era they were having a rough patch and he was kind of the gel that gave them their groove back!

I've seen the documentary filmed about 50 years ago, they had just finished writing these songs just the day before in only 3 weeks, part three is the rooftop concert. The electric piano was played by Billy Preston.

BILLY PRESTON on piano , the band met him when they were playing the clubs in Hamburg. After a lot of squabbling in the studio George walked out and bumped into Billy they chatted and George asked him to come back to the studio, once Billy was on the scene the atmosphere improved and they got back to work and Billy played on this track and GET BACK .

I am glad that generations and people have moved on and occasionally look back and listen to the Beatles They changed all music forever and their general message was positivity and love.

Billy Preston on keyboards. Recognizing his master skills they chose him to play keyboard on other songs as well. Billy is often referred to as “the 5th Beatle”.

I keep hearing this, but I doubt that the Beatles ever considered Preston for an official spot in the band. First, the Beatles were The Beatles, the Fab Four (not five). Second, the Beatles already had two good keyboardists in Paul and John. Both Ringo and George also played some keyboards and producer George Martin was an accomplished keyboardist who’d played on dozens of Beatles tracks. Third, Preston played only during 1969-the writing was clearly on the wall that the band was headed towards break-up. I would offer that Billy Preston was never officially offered a membership in The Beatles. The fab four made use of a very small and select number of musicians when needed. I have no inside information, but I’ve never read that the four of them ever "seriously" considered officially expanding their band to include a fifth Beatle. I welcome any info that might corroborate or dispute that.

@@garyr8739 You’re getting too deep into this. The “5th Beatle” reference was merely an endearing term that was used because Billy was a well respected keyboardist and the Beatles used him on some songs. There was never a consideration by the band to expand to five members. It was an endearing reference. That’s it. A few years later, George used Billy in the All Star line-up for the “Concert For Bangladesh” show, which was recorded and sold as a triple album set, and the entire concert was made into a film.

This was the last live performance they ever did. The whole "rooftop concert" (that this song came from) is something like 30-40 minutes long. Very historic performance, and you get to see them at the top of their game. No crowd noise to drown them out, either. Highly recommended. Another song I highly recommend is "I Want You (She's So Heavy)". The later Beatles are much more interesting than the earliest stuff, in my flawed opinion. There was a week, back in the day, where The Beatles had 14 of the top 100 songs being played on the radio - including ALL of the top 5 songs. When once given the opportunity to broadcast one song live, to a global audience of some 265 million people, The Beatles chose their song, "All You Need Is Love". As Ringo said in an interview, they were all about peace and love.

This their last performance. It was a final farewell for the fans before they broke up. Before this they had not performed in public in year's but only worked in the studio recording new albums. They stopped performing in public because the fans screamed so much that, not only could the fans not hear the performance, but the Beatles could not hear themselves play. So they focused on creating innovative music in the studio. It is probably why they were able to be so creative and develop new sounds no one had ever heard before.

Let it Be was their last release, but Abbey Road was actually the album they recorded last. So I'll always consider Abbey Road as their last album. And the way it ends is so fitting for it to be their last.

Congratulations! You guys reviewed my all-time favorite Beatles song, and that is saying ALOT! I have many favorites. Too many to pick, but if I had to pick one. BJ is right that that's an electric piano and that Soul Brother #1 Billy Preston himself on organ, and he gave the song some serious soul! I think the organ part really makes the song. EXCELLENT choice!! Loved it. Maybe my favorite of all your videos, just because I love this song so much. Thanks.
