I'm surprised the basketball wasn't filled with meat.
@DarkLordDiablos10 жыл бұрын
They use the basketball because of the density and resistance it can give due to the properties of compressed air. Anyone who has been hit in a soft area but either a football or basketball will know it hurts. Using one for this test shows how sharp their swords are, filling it with meat would require them to cut it open and thus weakening its structural integrity.

Hi i am from Switzerland i buy your Grosse messer from a reseller from you. after few duels and demostration. things start to get shacking i kontakt the reseller he said i have to send it back to him for inspecktion. To send it back it will cost me over 120 $. So i decide to fix it to my self and i did with some welding and epoxi. So after all i have to say your grosse messer is good but not that good as you put it on this video. You can not do those kind of things everytime without getting some damage to the sword. So to all people out thier just inspeckt your sword everytime you use it. So you dont injure your self. Thx and have a nice time using your Grosse Messer.
@edi98927 жыл бұрын
I like their videos, but when it comes to their products, I'm really skeptical, since their quality control sucks. My Shamshir came with an oblique crossguard, protrusions and decoloration etc. and I've seen sellers that warn that CS has too many rattly guards that they can't even check themselves and sort out, since that would be too costly sending all those blowouts back. There are also plenty of videos of CS blades breaking or getting seriously notched. Moreover, when it comes to fittings and especially handling, other manufacturers are simply far better.

I got this sword a few years ago and i must say, i absolutely love it. The wood handle feel amazing in my hands and its considerably lighter then i thought. In fact, the only real complaint i have is that the sheath does not come with any sort of device so that would allow you to strap the sword to a belt. But, that's not a huge deal, considering could probably make one easily enough.

This is probably in the top 5 most fearsome single-edged weapons that are available.

It's "aplomb." Aplomb means self-confidence or assurance, i.e. "to do something with aplomb" means to do it very well. He's basically saying it can cut equally well as an Eastern sword.
@cpu4613 жыл бұрын
@MadPyrotechnicus There are several reasons it bends that far; the fact that the bending is balanced throughout the entire length of the blade and not focused on a single point as well as the fact that type of steel used (1055 carbon steel) is a medium to high carbon steel (.50-.60 carbon content, steels with .60 carbon content are generally used in springs) so it has the right strength to ductility balance to bend without deforming.

Grosse Messer translates to large cutter in German. In parallel to the "da dao" in Chinese, which means "big blade", aka the "Chinese War Sword" also by CS. These were meant for use with conscripted peasants, who tend to have good upper body strength, and unlike double edge swords, these need only minimum training to create a formidable opponent.

Hey Cold Steel I know you are very busy but I would like to know which of your swords have the best cutting power. I'm seriously considering between these swords, Warrior Katana, Chinese 2 Handed Sword, Gross Messer, and European Longswords or Hand Half Sword. I want a strong durable sword that will cut well. I heard the cross guards near the hilt can loosen so that makes me uneasy.
@dudest.v.g.58815 жыл бұрын
Lord Zachael hand and a half or gross messer probably for cutting, long sword has a lot of stabbing power

@cpu4613 жыл бұрын
@Bjo15 Following through generally means that you keep going after the stuff is cut. As for the guy's body following the sword I'm pretty sure it has less to do with his strength and more to do with his inexperience with blades compared to the other demonstrators.
@cujo5554413 жыл бұрын
@lockbreak12 also, though I'm no expert, I always assumed that a curved blade concentrates more of the force of the swing on a shorter section of the blade, which translates to greater cutting force. I hope I explained it well enough too.

It is also compounded into one word, correct? I am rusty but I also thought it was a Kriegsmesser also, took two years of german and that was two years ago.
@stridingshadow14 жыл бұрын
@SweStuff94 Sharpness depends on... you guessed it, sharpening! So if a grosse Messer is made out of quality steel and is well sharpened by a skilled specialist, it will cut very well. European Longswords were generally less sharp than katanas, because they were designed to be swinged at armoured opponents (among others), which would quickly dull the blade anyway. Many longsword techniques involved gripping one's own sword's blade (through gloves of course) as well.
@Psiberzerker7 жыл бұрын
I see you have a side-ring instead of a nagel. Would it be availible with a nagel?
@Just_A_Dude14 жыл бұрын
@AAGuitar123 I truly hope that was meant as just a joke, not an attack on the video; this is a technical demonstration, and those tests all show things about the sword's durability, maneuverability, and cutting power. Also, FYI to everyone, a pig carcass is the closest natural analogue to a human body readily available without getting medical cadavers. Their equivalent mass, bone density and flesh consistency means a sword's impact will have a similar effect if used on a person.
@GalokVonGreshnak11 жыл бұрын
Even though it's on the heavy side, I'm glad you guys have made a reproduction of a two-handed messer sword. The one I received has the blade slightly bent about 2-4 degrees to the left. I've joked with my friends that I received the original blade that was bent to show the durability of the heat treated blade. Guess I have the tried and true version, eh?

@SuperLumipallo13 жыл бұрын
@allshallbelosttoyou there is a lot to consider.. like the length the curve and handle.. of course if it's one or two handed counts a lot too.. but still you can have the worlds most durable and sharpest warblade and can't cut a mere plasticbottle half.. on the other you can have cheap pocket knife and get it through steel plate (if the knife itself can handle it without breaking).. so the way of effective cutting is only a matter of technique and how well can you handle your blade.

I agree, modern steels are superior. Repeated forging would have burned off the carbon in the steel, and folding it was done to control the size of the steel. It would also have distributed the different elements of the steel more evenly. You're correct, the Tamahagana would not be steel, it would have high levels of carbon dissolved in it, it would be comparable to cast and pig iron.
@GigaHands14 жыл бұрын

@P-XIII11 жыл бұрын
I never said pure iron is found in the natural environment. That modern steel is better, is what I have been saying all along. But I see my ignorance concerning the refignment process before steel is made and my incorrect assumptions following it. I have been told by metelurgists that, folding was used to even out and burn off impurities. If I understand correctly, tamahagana was not steel, but high carbon content iron, which had to be reduced too to get it to the sweet spot to make steel?
@Kezan99911 жыл бұрын
so many regional variants, and minor alterations that can be done to a weapon or armor that to say "all these are this and all thats are that" isn't completely possible. look at longswords, which are also bastard swords and hand-and-a-half swords, depending on who you ask and what area they are from, et cetera.

The world record rope cut at the end of this video, is that still current and are their other swords you make that can do the same cut as easily? I'd guess the Chinese War Sword and the Katana could do it. Perhaps the Great Sword, European Longswords and your Hand Half Swords when used in 2 hands. Always wondered which are best for sheer cutting power. Great videos btw!
