Ironically, Murray himself said the right thing after his mistranslation in Japanese to Nakatsu to confirm, but he either mispoke or completely forgot that you couldn't takeover your character.

That wouldn't make much business sense. Fighting games are the only games where people really have "mains". You can play one character forever and never switch. If you could lab DLC characters without paying there wouldn't be much reason to buy them. There's also not enough DLC characters to do character free play rotation like you can see in MOBAs.

It's different from being able to completely familiarize yourself with the character like when you own them That aside, people who are interested will buy the character regardless. People switch characters quite a bit in FGs too

I haven't bought any of the DLC characters because they honestly didn't really appeal to me, but MAN Clive looks SO cool. Plus the stage is also incredible, I haven't come around to playing FF16 yet, but seeing how much effort they put into Clive REALLY makes me want to play it. So yeah, he will probably be the first DLC character I actually buy. Also, toxic TEKKEN fans being the reason we don't get the patch notes early is like so fitting it's actually crazy

About Special Style, I faced someone who used it but also had good sidesteps, basically they didn't study the moves, but studied the 3rd dimension instead. Meanwhile I do the moves manually but forget to sidestep.

The only issue I've ever had with special style is my opponents menu appearing on my screen. Being able to hide that is my favorite change in the whole update.

Regarding tournament mode being not played much in t7 is definitely due to it not functioning properly. There was a 50/50 chance that the lobby would break even if 1 person leaves. If they make good quality of life changes to it I can definitely see it being famous

With hiding special style: I think the reason is because the UI would flash as soon as you pressed a button, so you could just watch their UI and wait for them to press a low, then just duck on reaction. Fergus was doing a King to TGS using only special style, and people were doing that to him.

At least allow custom ball rooms. Forcing ft2 in quickplay has completely shifted this game. Also allowing people to ft1 in ranked is odd. Great update still but I hope this stuff will be addressed one day.

Forcing FT2 in quick play is honestly the most annoying thing in this game. In ranked if you don't allow people to leave I'm afraid they would probably plug even more.

What I'm really hoping Clive and v1.10 drive home is that this is the end of year ONE of a most likely 7 year game, and look at where we are vs where we started from. And what things could be going on in the background for the game that we have no idea of. Everyone's got things that they wish for the team to implement and gripes and what have you, but i really think this shows that they're putting in the work. Excited to see how you end up playing Clive!

I am on TeamTifa, so I was disappointed when it was Clive. However, after watching few Clive gameplay video, I am now glad Clive is the FF representation. The developers definitely put a lot of love into Clive gameplay. As a person who also love FF XVI, I am so happy to see many of Clive's moveset is translated well into Tekken. That Phoenix Shift, Shiva avoidance, Titan Punch, Bahamut laser, Odin Zantetsuken ... all are love letter to FFXVI game. Not to mention, that unique outro if you finish the game with RA ... a homage to one of the most iconic scene in FFXVI game. Now, I can't wait to play Clive in Tekken 8. And this is coming from a person who dislike playing guest character. Negan has 0%, while Noctis, Geese, and Akuma have 1% usage time in my 4+years of Tekken 7.

In Tekken 8 you could not even watch your replays if you went against an opponent using a DLC character you didn't own. No replay, no frame data, no character takeover. Really glad to see them change it to how it should have been.

I've been trying to learn SF6 and it is incredibly frustrating to play against modern when you're still trying to grasp the mechanics. I don't recall ever feeling this way when I was new to Tekken 8

Special style is a brain check. The person using it so limited with moves that if you loose to it it's 100% on you. But still if you're a new green rank player trying to learn classic controls, playing against someone with special style does seem a bit unfair.

I've had a number of matches where people would toggle special style repeatedly and it was incredibly distracting, so I'm glad they added an option to disable the opponent UI. I would like to assume that's the actual reason for adding the option, since seeing it doesn't really impact anything otherwise.

I will certainly play Clive, because I already paid for it. Don't think much of the character, and despite playing the majority of FF games, 16 never appealed to me. The effort and time they took putting the character in the game (at least aesthetically) is good. However it doesn't make me want to play the character more, since that effort and time is in my opinion just a bare minimum requirement for putting any character into a game. Not trying to be negative, just my opinion.

I'm glad they're allowing for more customization options with guest characters, that was something that disappointed me with Noctis and Geese in T7. I was skeptical about Clive at first but the more I see him the more I like him. He reminds me of Aragorn which is cool. I hope he's a good addition to the roster. Customization slots are nice. I really hope that they start releasing unique clothing though. There’s so many things they can easily do, so many styles and clothes to try. But instead, I get a reskin of a shirt or skirt that is a carbon copy of one already in the game (in the battle pass at that). There’s some unique things sure. But if people buy the battle pass they should NOT be paying for stuff that exists in the game already, as a recolor.
