Hey Todd, Great project! If you place concrete blocks or concrete stepping stones on your wooden base to secure it for hurricanes.

That's a great idea as well!

How you mowing the grass under the panels? Probably need to put those 2’x2’ foam squares on most and then around the outside edge use a 12x12 cement stepping stone. Why i say stome on outside is that you can use it as a mow esge the mower will not suck up the stone and chew it up as ot would foam pads.

Nice I like your design as you can actually turn clockwise or counter clockwise the entire frame to align. Sure 2 ground screws per each unit would take more wind pressure but would be a lot harder to accomplish by yourself. I applaud your work sir! I bought the same ground mounts and they are put together in my garage. Ill buy the grouund screws you showd us. Believe your method will work fine for me my application also. Thanks Todd!

Well I hope so, Todd, but I envision a hurricane as having about 8,000 times the human force you used to sink that brace! (And tornado, breathtaking amounts of force). And the wind could "lever" it, like the flat surface serving like a scoop for the wind (badly phrased. Maybe think of a house of cards being easier to blow down than those lying flat on the ground). Not giving you a hard time, but hurricane? Oh man, I don't know about that! I'd feel better with a concrete rather than a dirt anchor too! But am having fun watching the journey. I had another idea, just a wild idea, have the panels pivot some amount during the span of daytime, maybe just 30% angular change, so that the receiving surfaces sort of track the sun's angle to the ground. It may be trivial, since you're already orienting towards the sun's arc anyway.

Hey Bill. Yeah, I'm really not sure if anything is hurricane-proof. If you're in its path, you're bound to see destruction. Thanks for following the journey :) -Todd

I am definitely doing a solar/battery system to save on electricity. Ac300x2 w/2 batteries to start.

Claytonyoung, good to hear. I just purchased the AC300 w/(4) B300 batteries 🔋renewed. I'll let you know how that performs as well.

Todd, do you have any expectations as to what the R.O.I might be? Also how long the batteries might last before replacement is required. A lot of people are adding solar but not with the battery component. The way you're doing this is how I always envisioned a top flight system to be designed. Nice work 👍

How are the ground screw holding up, is the solar mount still stable ? I am about to do the exact same setup. Thank you

We just had some 60 mph wind gusts here in Florida a month ago during a storm. Everything held up fine, even the newest solar frame I built to add 2 more panels and that one held in place even without the ground screw mount.
