Groundhog vs. Cat

Took a video of an encounter between a neighborhood cat and groundhog in my neighbor's backyard. He was eating carrots surrounding the cat, and it turns out that there was even one under him and he went for it! But then he kept checking for more. Added music just for fun :) Sorry about the shakey camera at times :S

That is hilarious! The groundhog just knew there was another carrot there, but he wanted to be as polite as possible to get the cat to move over a little bit, so that he could get that last carrot! It's nice to see how tolerant they are of each other(for the most part).

I've had the pleasure to have been surrounded by 3 to 6 cats until I went off to college. A cat found me in college, first day. My mother put a cat in my crib. Had another cat who only ate what she killed, never cat food. Never came in the house. Had another who never left the house. Had a male cat who went after dogs. It goes on and on. Every cat is very different, if you take the time to get to know each one. I love dogs too. More maintenance but we had a few of them too, so I know the deal. I miss them all, swear I won't let another break my heart and one finds me and the circle begins anew...

Hog is a massive rodent. Cat realizes this. Groundhog is mostly vegan. Cat is obligated carnivore. Groundhog weights in more pounds than Cat, I believe. The massive rodent shape would be difficult to do a quick kill by Cat. Cat is obligated, and is responsible, knowing to when not to "kill".

The worst thing is that this day is repeated for the cat over and over again. The cat always wakes up to 'I Got You Babe' by Sonny and Cher and then this carrot situation happens. This cat has experienced this identical event so many times that it has learnt to play the piano, saved a man from choking and taken up ice sculpture.

We have a big old male groundhog that has been living under the backyard shed for at least five years now, and we have two adult female cats. I have yet to see any interaction between these animals. They seem to co-exist and leave each other alone. There may have been an encounter or two that i just never saw.
