Great viola solo. Literally the first time I have ever spoken or written those words 😎

I watched this the other day but am just now able to comment because I’ve finally regained consciousness - the level of musical awesomeness had me in a state of temporary paralysis 🔥🔥🎵🎵

The first time I heard this I was like "what was that?". The second time I heard this I was like “oh, OK”. Then I started hearing it in my head and now I listen to it daily. This is one mysterious groove - it really grows on you. What a master work!

I've been listening to this repeatedly over the last few weeks. I hear a lot of Lyle Mays in Taylor's piano solo. The writing gives me a Pat Metheny vibe, more his newer stuff (the Unity Group album), if Pat were to take a back seat in one of his own compositions like Charles does here. Makes me really miss Pat and Lyle playing together. This is a fantastic piece, and I'd be shocked if Pat wasn't one of Taylor's influences

i think its more the chord progrssion and not what he's playing in his solo that reminds me of Pat and Lyles music (at least to my ear)!

WOOW! 🔥🔥🔥 This was a very pleasant surprise. A ridiculous song and arrangement, in being absolutely amazing that is, with ridiculously good musicians performing it with THEE absolute energy of musical heaven bestowed. A few of which I don't think I've heard of before, so I guess I probably should check them out! 🤯🎶

Hopefully a transcription video will be derived from this video so other ordinary musicians can understand what the heck is going on with the rhythms, meter, and time signatures 😎

Might try to explain some of the process of this tune on Instagram soon! Drums, keyboards, sax, viola, and piano were all reading charts with different time signatures coinciding. Basically it’s all in some weird version of 4/4…😂
@timangus9 ай бұрын
@@TayjazzProductionsI'd convinced myself the intro was 17/16 🤷♂️
@TayjazzProductions9 ай бұрын
@@timangusnot a bad guess! 20 beats…Intro is basically 5 bars of 3 and one bar of 5, in terms of how I think of it. Or on some charts it’s written as 4 bars of 3, then 2 bars of 4. Later on, the same passage is in the drum part as 5 bars of 4. So technically other than during the piano solo, I think you could look at most of it in 4/4, but the phrasing and harmonic rhythm will make it feel easier dividing it asymmetrically. 🎉
@timangus9 ай бұрын
@@TayjazzProductions ah! I'd been counting 6 bars of 3 and 1 bar of 2 (for a total of 20), but somehow I'd multiplied 6x3 and got 15. Arithmetic not my strong point, apparently... Anyway, thanks for explaining 👍
@TayjazzProductions9 ай бұрын
@@timangushaha well that works too! 6 bars of 3 and one bar of 2 - might have to actually re-write the chart that way 🤔😄
