One could argue that 2 drummers, 3 percussionists, 3 keyboardists, 3 guitarists and so on, is all too much... But when you see them playing, it's not at all about being the most virtuos player, it is all about having FUN with friends while playing music and everyone bringing what makes them unique! The one chord or the one sound effect they play is filled with technique and musical thought, but also tons of JOY! They have time to stop playing and just clap along, that's so cool!!!

When playing with that many musicians, you can not identify individual Instruments anymore, like you can with smaller bands. But the soundscape that can be created with all these instruments and good musicians is just insane and so detailed and can't be compared to a small 4 Piece band. So is it necessary? No. But is it awesome that so many musicians can play together as one cohesive Band? Definitely yes!
@Baribrotzer2 жыл бұрын
It's effectively a modernized Big Band concept, adapted to jazz fusion: Imagine a typical fusion band: one horn, guitar, keyboards, bass, drums, and percussion. Then double, triple, or quadruple everything (except the bass) and you'd get Snarky Puppy. In fact, I think they could use a few more instruments: certainly a trombone, and maybe alto and/or bari saxes.
@creativical2 жыл бұрын

Snarky Puppy is an absolute MONSTER of a band. And they’re at the top of their game on this recording. So glad that this will be their next live cd/dvd release. Even more killer is the fact that there are TWO drummers, what appears to be Jason “JT” Thomas and my all time FAVORITE Snarky drummer, Larnell Lewis. FANTASTIC !!!!!

I waited for all my family members to leave the house then I turned all the surround speakers to there max, stood in the middle of the room and danced my heart out. The first time I had to max them volume out on the speakers this year.

THIS is what I've been missin from Snarky Puppy!! The COZINESS performances!! Where about 50 or so, people can sit in close being surrounded by the incredible greatness of each set! By the time I learned of this great band, you could only see them on a far stage because they've gotten so popular that they now fill huge venues! Rightfully so, but I Really want to be able to sit in close like when they began.

I was very fortunate, the first time I saw Snarky Puppy live I paid $10 at the door. The stage was one step off the ground, the 7 band members that day barely fit on the tiny stages, and I was about 3ft from Michael League. It blew my mind that first show, and every time I've seen them live afterward!
