Except Vulf isn't mainstream music. They are 100% independent. They control everything they do. They get zero radio play. They get zero media coverage. They are simply the most successful indie band of all time.

This lets you forget about hope for mainstream music - that whole concept of a music industry is no longer required! Vulf are independent niche musicians who marketed themselves in unique and engaging ways entirely through the internet, direct to fans. The mainstream can trickle out and all music can work like Vulf does.

Fun fact: at 34:45 the cameraman hands the camera over to Theo for Baby I Don’t Know. That’s because the guy filming is Ryan Lerman, who wrote the song. ok, what the hell is going on here? i was totally blindsided by this, i've got sooooo many questions, my mind has been effed. So you have these guys that look like they came out of a water balloon fight in the 70's totally KILLING IT for almost 2 hours to a completely packed madison square garden. Right when you are super getting into the groove about 20 minutes in being blasted with the funkiest of funk being delivered, this guy brings his freaking mom out to do a meditation sesion in the middle of the concert for 20k people!!!! all of this while being flawlesly filmed and recorded in 1 continuos shot. AMAZING

@@usernamewaster Phish - and I LOVE Phish - were able to do it in a time where the promoters didn't all wear suits. Now it's just a horrific mix of meeting metrics and everyone taking a cut until the band is lucky to leave with 3% of the total takings
@etamlak81994 жыл бұрын
@@josephpickard3108 Oh boy, you got lots to learn about music history. It's several orders of magnitude easier to get famous or thrive as a musician without editors and producers today than it ever has been. Just read about the motown for instance and all the music history from the 50s up to the 80s and you'll see how much we're lucky today.
@josephpickard31084 жыл бұрын
@@etamlak8199 Maybe you misinterpreted my comment. How many youtubers, twitch streamers and patreon indie types do you know that have sold out Madison Square Garden without an agent? Vulfpeck have been famed for their DIY approach, and it's one many musicians have followed. Jack Conte (Scary Pockets/Pomplemoose) set up Patreon in a similar vein.. Of course it's easier to get your own stuff out there now, but it's not a precursor for success or growth of a fanbase to the point where you sell out one of America's most iconic music venues on your own steam. Motown was effectively musical mob rule, but it's no different now with major promoters like Scooter Braun and talent agencies that thrive off desperate musos in Studio City.
