Just a suggestion for you regarding reversing the trailer. We used tom have a caravan and that had a clip which swivelled over the tow hitch shaft that moves backwards to apply the brake, thus rendering the brakes in operative. I am sure you could either make a clip which does this or change the tow hitch?

Hi ian an Julie I heard you say about having more storage of water . And you don't think you will need more water storage tank but remember once your house is up and you move in the animals you want to move onto site you want to have a fair bit more than you use the now. Because once your vegetables area is sorted plus the border plants are in . The vegetables will need well watered in hot summer . Then all the animals will need water plus cleaning washing the car ect . It would be great opportunity when having the digger to dig a deep hole for extra outside water storage tank as your groundwork are being done at this time . Ian remember the saying it's better having it when you need it rather than not having it and needing it. The other bouns is you dont need to cart water to the other side where animals will be Great start to the year the exciting part the house build good luck .

I remember when we were at this stage. I probably went over the plot and plans 50 times before we broke ground. It was worth it in the end because everything came out as close to perfect as possible. Have a good build!

It is always a worry but we will do it all again once the site is levelled.

Concrete & mortar should always be protected until fully cured when frost is about. As the water freezes it expands. Once thawed it will leave voids that eventually lead to crack & failure. On braked trailers you will have a lock out that prevents the towing shaft sliding pack into the towing shaft housing. On older trailers it was just simply a plate that pivoted over onto the shaft but if you forget its on & go off fully loaded “Yikes” Now on modern trailers its on or part of the handbrake assembly there are various designs but most trailers have them trailers fitted with override brakes that the collar positioned directly behind the coupling release handle is flipped outwards, otherwise the brakes will not function! When reversing the trailer this collar should be flipped back over the coupling shaft otherwise the brakes will be applied. Have a look on the handbrake and the towing shaft front and back. If you don’t have one make one but remember to remove it before traveling. Surprising spoil looks a lot when its dug out but doesn't go far after once settled . looking good

You can make a block from half a pipe a bit bigger than the brake shaft on the towing point and this stops the plunger applying the brake when reversing. Some had a bit of metal that flipped over when reversing and then you flip it out the way when towing, and flip it back when you had to reverse. I got a bit of pipe and cut it in half and just place it over the towing point where the rubber bellows are and then remove it when not needed.

So if the trailer brake engages when the trailer tongue is pushed, is there no place to put a cotter pin to prevent compressing the tongue arm? I would think braking trailers would have a way to manually keep the brake from triggering.

I doubt very much that little frost will have stopped the chemical reaction of your concrete but it's easy enough to check. Just have little dig at it with say a woodscrew or nail etc, if it feels good it is good! If it's no good you could dig chuks out of it a week later. We are not supposed to mix mortar/concrete in UK under +5 degrees Celsius unless additives are used but sometimes we do, and it usually works out fine if the day warms up. Sun on that wall = excellent reaction IMO.

Do yourself a favour and set up some “batter boards” to easily relocate your house foundation. Also where is your septic tank and weeping field going to be located? Can you use the agricultural portion for the septic system?
@HomesteadingUncontained8 күн бұрын
I will do, once the digger has finished - will reset it all out again but more precise.

There’s a lever on the trailer hitch to stop the Brakes engaging when reversing

when moving things with the power barrow first fill the barrow with stone or some thing it will make moving the trailer more easy adrian uk

I’d a scooted that line 50cm . Surely they won’t catch you in a wide open field. Pro tip on the portable grinder, hit it with some compressed air as that concrete dust will destroy the field.

There should be a Lock-Out for the brake on Ifor Williams Trailers. Back in the day when people did not know they often burnt a clutch out trying to reverse them. I love watching your videos however the way Ian speaks to Julie I would not last two minutes working with him.

Hi guys, this will be a big house, lots of dirt to move and move later again. But you know where it will go, that's good. Have fun when you go on the rally, it will be a blast. In 4 days the WRC 2025 will start off in Monte Carlo, so the roads will be a nice mess once you get there! Can't wait and hope we get some footage of that trip as well. Cheers, have fun now 👍💪✌

HUHHHHHHH !!!! Concrete expands when it is cold & damp & contracts when it is hot, that's why they put expansion joints in driveways concrete pads etc 🤔😐
