Some great “Manx International Rally” clips there, especially Pond in the 6r4 at Sulby, visibly quicker than the rest, great days….before they started putting chicanes in to make it “safer”….😔. Sat on a hedge at 1am in the morning , hearing an Audi Quattro chirping it’s way towards you , or a 6r4 with its barking engine note, shattering the almost silent manx countryside was something I’ll never forget….👍🇮🇲👌🏆

Looks like the Ford was the only car with a good working suspension compare to our days. Great Video!
@sometimesidreamaboutcheese10 ай бұрын
Its because rs200 had double shock-absorbers rear and front (front too as i remember, but car itself is too muchv heavy), while Delta S4 had only at the back due to lack of space at the front. Lack of shock-absorbers perfomance, whats solved with modern tech shock-absorbers and could be seen¬iced at nowadays hillclimb championships where Delta S4 is still holding top places.
@test-tl8dt9 ай бұрын
its really amusing to me that apparently no one thought of making a good suspension yet by 1986. that bouncing quattro at 0:24 is just painful to look at. its no wonder group A was almost immediately faster than these when they had to actually start using brain to develop cars and not just add more power and wing.

Awesome collection with some very nice variety. A bit surprised to see no 037, but I suppose the focus on AWD is quite deliberate :-)
@SpecialStage10 ай бұрын
We sadly just don't have any period footage of the 037, our archive starts in the early 80s but with mostly UK events, although this video was indeed focusing on the 'famous' Group B cars that are the most well known and we will do more in the future with some of the others
@XJ220NJ10 ай бұрын
@@SpecialStage It never fully occurred to me, but the 037 really was a rare guest on the British isles, huh? I think I once saw Pentti Airikkala throwing an 037 around the tight corners of either a Manx or Circuit of Ireland aaand... that's pretty much it? Kind of a shame it didn't get too many chances to shine on your side of the Channel, but at least it leaves more room for the RS200, that thing really entered the stage too late.

Does Ralley do a pure driver race with no coPilot?
@SpecialStage10 ай бұрын
There are similar events called Rally Sprints, these usually take place over the same short stage and don't always have a co-driver. Or you have Rallycross, which is more of a cross between Rallying and circuit racing as the cars go out racing against each other. Also some of the Comp Safari events that we cover (Off road racing) are like rallying but you don't need a co-driver if you chose not to have one

In these images (at the beginning especially) you can clearly see problem with Audi as a car where the front axle rules: its tendency to understeer makes car turn slower in corners. And with so much weight on the front axle, the rear axle cannot transmit as much torque and power to the rear axle as it should. With better oversteering behavior car would have been more agile, which is what would have made the front end point at the exit of the corner more quickly, which is the advantage of the "authentics Group B" with mid-engined being driven "almost" like a RWD.
