We've got some banter specialists in the booth this week for a episode 3 of Group Chat. Gimbal God, Gabe Ferguson, and Joe Sexton join Chris and Silk in the booth to cover a wide range of topics suggested by you. We talk about everything from the pressing issue of not having name titles in videos, Johan Malkoski drops some knowledge about where the money in the industry is going, Circe Wallace chimes in about Natural Selection updates, and Pat Moore gives us the scoop behind new products over at Arbor Snowboards. This episode is certainly one for the books, you won't want to miss it.

Loved this episode. The group chats go hard. Most of us aren't pros and are working our asses off without thinking twice about it because we do it for the love of snowboarding. We're doing the homework on gear and paying the premiums to shred as much as possible and were stoked out of our minds to have the bomb hole to listen to every week because it keeps us plugged in and connected to snowboarding. We are snowboarders.

I love Gimbal God’s rant about putting in 2 hours a day in the off season. I own a construction business and if in my off season i only goof off and I don’t put any time into it my business will suffer in the on season. If you just invest a little into yourself each day it’ll add up and pay you back one way or another.

Johan is hitting the hard truths. The relatability aspect is the biggest thing that I think a lot of the pros in the industry are forgetting/missing. He hit it on the head with the Longo analogy, he makes content in resorts that the avg rider can picture themselves in, but doing it at the highest level. And beautifully. Would even say the same with Natural Selection. Wouldn’t be surprised if the viewer stats were highest during the Resort stop aka Jackson Hole, compared to the rest. We regular/non-pro riders got to watch some of our fave pros riding terrain that looks relatively familiar/in-bounds, but doing it at the highest/elite level. Another example I'd say is a brand like Korua. Who do the Yearning For Turning edits showcasing some of the most relatable type of riding, but done at an elite and super stylish way that we mere mortals aspire to ride like. I also wouldn't be at all surprised if their sales were correlated to their thousands of views from their relateable edits and shorts. All in all, think the pro industry needs to re-frame their films and edits to work around how the avg rider could gravitate and relate to it, but showcasing why they're a "pro". Whether it be showing more full lines so we can actually see how pros navigate real lines, or showing more bts, etc. These things go a long way in keeping us regular riders engaged and hyped to ride, which translates to spending $ on brands that can excite us in these ways. Great format, will def be watching more of these 🙏🏼❤️‍🔥

Great episode. What I don’t understand is why the riders don’t do reviews of the boards they use for different conditions and why they use them. When they would pick a certain board depending on snow condition, terrain and so on.

On the subject of snowboarding being relatable and within reach financially for people you can't ignore the OVER PRICED lift tickets in North America. I live in Sweden where gas for your car has been about $10 / gallon for like 15 years, a beer at the bar is usually $10 and a new iPhone 15 Pro Max costs about $2,100 but guess what a lift ticket at my local hill cost? $13 / day. That's the price of a gallon of gas, a beer or two cappuccinos. And yes, the hill is small, but it also makes the act of snowboarding available to basically everyone. Local riders Ingemar Backman and Johan Olofsson who grew up riding these small hills went on to film their Melt Down and TB5 parts about 5 years after they strapped in on a local hill for the first time where lift tickets were likely $5 / day or $50 for a seasons pass.

Also...industry people talking shit about riding rails... if you can do it on a skateboard etc. Welcome to southern finland. We have heavy snowboard scene and only hills like 100m long with couple rails. We're snowboarding in the rain with artificial snow all the time. Mountain are far away. I love free riding and cruising down the mountain but really park and railriding makes snowboarding relatable for everyone. Indoor places in holland etc. You can't put mountain indoor. But rails you can. Now some industry dudes are telling that we're doing it wrong... I now that north america sales top scandivian sales by miles, but still - there is market here also and it's mostly about park and railriding because of the size of the hills we have. It makes snowboarding available to whole new places, not only mountain areas.

@@rodeosnowboarding6976to clarify I think we were strictly talking professionals putting small rails in your “year end, put all my hard work in” video part. I grew up riding rails, super fun, relatable and easy to start to get tricks. This was more towards people not trying. And choosing east features.

I'm hoping I'm not part of the problem with snowboarding, and I really hope I'm not having a negative impact on it. My growth on KZbin came as a huge suprise at first and perhaps I wasn't the best role model for snowboarding looking back at some of my older content. But moving forward I just want to get people excited to progress in their riding and once they've progressed past what I can give them hopefully they've found themselves immersed in snowboarding culture and they will then continue to support and love the world of snowboarding. I found this chat fascinating, but when gimbal god talks about down unweighted carving shit, I feel like what the heck am I doing? Am I helping or am I just a stain on Snowboarding? When i was getting into snowboarding, people like me didn't exist, and I wouldnt want to change anything about my journey into snowboarding, am i taking away some of the magic? Sometimes I just want to kick it all in and go back to just loving riding my board without thinking about what kind of content i need to push out next, but at the same time I know I won't, because when I was doing that I never had a penny to my name, but now thanks to KZbin im able to sell snowboard lessons all winter long. As as ive got older I know the importance of having some money and being able to support my family. Its a tricky one, becoming so involved with the thing you love. Im not sure where I'm going with this, but i love to listen to you guys chat, i guess on some level im probably just envious that you sit on one side of snowboard culture that feels real and authentic, and its kind of like im knocking at the door trying to get in, but ultimately I'm on the other side with not necessarily the best company in tow. Respect to you guys, i guess ive answered some of my own questions in writing / thinking this out loud. ✌️

I dont disagree with the first take. There is a lot of dudes out there who "have a channel" but with well below mediocre content. Can't hate on people for being stoked about riding something new but there is too much random @joeshmoeMTB BS content out there who shouldn't really be broadcasting it as if they are true influencers while riding blue trails in Nebraska. Just to rebut, I think youre referring to people who have a following in some sense. But when trying to look something up about trails or zones I've never ridden alot of times its just inundated with dorky dudes who are in their 40-50s recording mediocre GoPro footage and calling it a "channel"
