Dungeon Delve feels like the fulcrum between the raw, unfiltered Critical Role and the highly edited, cinematic Dimension 20.

Great observation. I'm kinda shocked more actual play shows don't utilize this general formula. - Most, if not all, of the fat/filler is trimmed out. - Funnier/more memorable scenes are kept in unedited. - Interview shots with the players to enhance what we just saw or are about to see.

Wasting resources made you prioritize, in theory, and kept the tension levels up. The main point of empty rooms was that older editions were a gane of exploration and risk management, and this made it feel like you were truly exploring an abandoned place. Modern d&d is not a game of exploration and risk management, it's a game of cool story telling, and while a couple of empty rooms are okay, the sheer number in this module risks it becoming boring. Neither model is better, they just have a different set of design principles, and are different types of game.

27:10 I gotta throw out a mention for Panic at the Dojo as an indie-TTRPG to try. It's a TTRPG about seeing who can be the most anime character to ever anime punch, with the power of friendship and everything. A lot of the rules are something to the effect of "Do this, unless something else is more dramatic, then do the dramatic thing instead" I love it 56:40 the core rules for other languages often convert to Metric at 1.5m = 5ft so when building in minecraft you're working on a scale of three minecraft blocks for every two 5ft squares

You guys keep putting down meppo, and I have built and played a kobolt named meppo, and he has been one of my favorite characters to play. Hers a bit of his back story. At a very young age, he was abandoned by his clan and left for dead. Found by a pack of wolves that took him in as one of their own, he grows up with his wolf brother. They became great avengers and an incredible par.

I play dungeon crawl classics with some folks at work and I gave the wizard a skull that lets him up his success chance on spellcasts, but had a secret downside of exploding on a nat 1. he rolled a nat 1, it exploded, killed 2 of the party and every monster in the room. Best experience so far. It was crazy.

You should run a dungeon with Shadowdark at some point. The inventory space, torch timer, turn based exploration, and streamlined d20 rules are built for them. Old School Dnd with modern mechanics
@retro_crasherАй бұрын
What might be a good attempt is like a preemptive plan, where your characters would probably know how long a torch will last. I have never tried this but a sense of stating ahead of time stating that you only have enough resources to explore x amount of rooms, or explore for y amount of days would be a better way; one way to maybe track this is with a tracker like the water level in forgotten island.
@Tastingo117Ай бұрын
Ive been following your channels for a while and have previously played some TTRPGs as a player but only recently became a DM. I was so happy to see you run a lvl 1 adventure module. On the day your dungeon delve of Sunless Citadel released, I was browsing the Monster Manual for something cool I could add to my Mines of Phandelver adventure. Since my players absolutely karate chopped every ambush and trap as it was written, I thought about spicing things up with a white dragon egg... Needless to say, your episode made me reconsider.

The party was a grizzled guard that road a yoshii (calvary fighter) A rogue that is part of a toad underground that wants to overthrow peach A monk construction worker who is angry the mushroom kingdom is always getting destroyed A stoner spores druid whose spores attacks were his weed smoke And me a wild magic sorcerer who got lost in the code and has no idea how his powers work

19:00 According to Gygax, in the very early days, "if you don't keep a track of time in the dungeon, there is no point in playing the game". But very early D&D had very different rules. 34:30 Hit, and knocked uncoscious. I don't think Mipo would try to kill her, she is the talisman of the tribe, the mission was to take her back. 40:31 It does "the dragon is the lucky talisman of the tribe". But no other information. 47:25 They raided each other pretty often. But yeah.

There was a tea shop based in Washington that worked with Pizo(spelling???) to make a bunch of teas inspired by the base classes for first edition Pathfinder like a decade ago(?). The owner used synesthesia to make the blends taste like how the concepts of the classes taste to her.

Firstly, right off the bat (and I commented this on the 2nd episode of this over on XP to Level 3, in response to Spencer's "why is there a dragon?"): white dragon wyrmling in 3rd edition is the size of a house cat and its breath weapon does 1d6 damage, reflex save for half. WotC converted this module the lazy way.

56:40 do 2m(meters)=5ft(feet), it's the easiest conversion because a base MC character model is 2 blocks(m) tall, and it's abt the same range for attacks and stuff. I have thought A LOT about this.

At the mention of the tracking info part, 5e really isnt built for it, even with the Torch example you had people with the Light Cantrip, so you wouldnt ever need to track that, spells dont require actual components, you can just have a spell focus unless they cost gp in the material section. So many early things bypass resource requirements. If you have a Cleric, their spells are prepared at long rest and have access to all their spells. So they can just select cure disease, or Create food and water, ect at the long rest to provide everything. For this reason there should be no disease or starvation in any 5e world xD

hot take here but, i like keeping track of resources and inventory, idk why people are so mean when people mention that rations, ammunition and components arent infinite
@yarion4774Ай бұрын
Spell components that don't have a gold value should be infinite as foci and the component pouch exist. These components are flavour and a little bit of mechanical requirement of having a specific item. Rations and ammunition tracking is an unloved child because a lot of people don't care about the nitty gritty of inventory keeping. Those people probably don't care about encumbrance. I personally think it depends on the campaign you are running. In my campaign, the rations the party has with them is their timer for how long they can stay in a certain area. I just don't track water for the purpose of ease but tracking rations is definitely needed for my purpose. And I'll die on this hill that tracking ammo is essentiell for any ranged PC as this is their only balance. Otherwise ranged is just so god damn powerful with all it's support. Needing to keep in mind that you only have 20 shots.
@karu2596Ай бұрын
@@yarion4774 not all classes get component pouches or arcane focuses starting out, keeping track of ammunition and food is fun idk why ppl are so against it, it isnt even hard if u dont like it its like just buy a shit ton of rations if u dont wanna bother and ur golden. water tracking might be fun in a survival focused low level campaign, then again we must remember that dnd has many (sometimes too many) ways to mitigate these aspects of the game, which imo make the game a bit less enjoyable for specific purposes, which is actually the biggest reason i love jacobs fallout system and how much it goes into detail on resources and managing your gear
