This is helpful, but 3:11 lost me. Can you put some words around this page, or the Groups button to make it more intuitive? I'm not sure what Groups > Belongs to means. Groups this segment belongs to? This is confusing because segment and groups are near synonyms, and on top of that you have segments and groups with the same name. Very hard to know what is what because of this. It's only by reading through the comments that I was able to understand and get a good visual with a hierarchy - that segments are buckets that can contain many groups. That helped! For this tutorial, renaming the segment to Weekly Newsletter Bucket, and the group to Subscribers from Weekly Newsletter Opt-in would make this easier to follow, too. Also, I feel micro copy is missing at 4:45? Shouldn't there be something like "Create a segment" before the filter? (Sorry, former UI designer and copy writer here)
@MailerLiteOfficial4 жыл бұрын
Hi Irene, thank you very much for your feedback and recommendations, we are always happy to hear how we can improve. Groups > belongs to is a rule you are adding to the segment specifying that you want to filter subscribers based on their group membership. In this case, the segment will contain subscribers who belongs to Weekly Newsletter. The major difference between Groups and Segments is that Groups are static, you need to update the list of the subscribers who belong to the group manually (by importing subscribers, deleting them, or they need to use sign up form) Segments are dynamic, the list of subscribers will update automatically based on set of rules you can set up. You can learn more about groups and segments here 😊 help.mailerlite.com/article/show/48133-what-is-the-difference-between-groups-and-segments At 4:45, Marcin switched from Segment tab to All subscribers tab. The feature he is using is Filter, which allows you to quickly filter subscribers based on set of rules - this filter is identical to the one we use for Segments, which is why you have an option to save is as Segment should you decide to keep the filtered list for the future.

So what I take away is that groups is at least initially how htey came onto the list, and segments is for selecting groups for outbound communiction, is that a good summary?
@MailerLiteOfficial4 жыл бұрын
Hi there Paige! Segments are dynamic and you can use them if you have targeted subscribers based on a condition. So, for example, let's say you have a custom field (like "hobby") and the subscribers can be in different Groups but you want to target those who have "painting" in the hobby field-that's when you use Segments. If you don't need this dynamic feature and have your subscribers organized in Groups, then you can just use Groups. 😊 Hope this helps!
@elysiandelights7814 жыл бұрын
I didnt understand this. Why can you send to segment and the group? If you are sending to group then why do you need to exclude when you are already selecting a group you want to send to? Groups are like lists but these are already segmented it seems? Someone clicks on say "monthly" option, or they subscribe to footer form, not the form embedded in article, then they can be segmented and put in that group. What would segments do then? I am used to simple terminology of Lists & Segments. Lists are just basic things like subscriber or customer. THen segment them based on their behaviour? Is it the same here?
@MailerLiteOfficial4 жыл бұрын
Hello Elysian, I will be happy to answer all your questions. 😊 ✬Why can you send to segment and the group? Segments and groups are both designed to keep your subscribers organised; however, they have slightly different behaviour. Whilst groups must be updated manually - you have to import or delete the subscribers to change the list, segments are updated automatically based on certain rules you assign to them. For example, if you want to send a campaign to all the subscribers who didn't open your email in the past month, you create a segment. Then as soon as someone on the list opens your email, they will be automatically removed from the segment. ✬ If you are sending to a group, then why do you need to exclude when you are already selecting a group you want to send to? In this example, we selected Weekly Newsletter as a recipient group, and we excluded Blaclisted group. If Weekly newsletter has some subscribers who are also in the Blacklisted group and I don't want those subscribers who are in both groups to receive my campaign, then I need to exclude the Blacklisted group. So now the campaign will be sent to those in the Weekly newsletter group minus subscribers who are also in the Blacklisted group. ✬ Lists are just basic things like subscriber or customer. THen segment them based on their behaviour? Is it the same here? Yes, groups are equivalent of lists in other ESP. They are static. Segments are dynamic, as I explained above, they change based on certain rules or behaviour as you asked correctly 🙂

@@MailerLiteOfficial Thank you! I have an ecommerce website. I had sent this on support to ask, if you could reply here and understand I wouldnt have to buy another plugin. Thing is - I had bought EMail designer Villatheme plugin to design ecommerce transactional emails. Now with mailpoet, they use these default emails of woocommerce and send these. But with mailerlite I am seeing that I have to create these emails again inside the email with its own template? I am fine doing that but the email designer from villatheme also has a automatic coupon generate feature that makes a new coupon in woocommerce automatically and attaches it to next order purchase email. If mailerlite automatically generates a coupon and also makes it in woocommerce coupons, then its fine. But if it doesnt, I need to know if I can send these default woocommerce transactional emails through smtp service of mailerlite?

@ElysianDelights, unfortunately, we don't offer an SMTP infrastructure at this moment. But good news are, you can now create and send coupons in MailerLite too www.mailerlite.com/blog/new-interactive-features 😊

Thanks for the video. I don't understand why one would have a blacklist, why not just delete or unsubscribe those who are not interested. I ALSO could not follow the Weekly Newsletter examples.....and I DID pause many times and go back to replay.
@MailerLiteOfficial4 жыл бұрын
Hi Cheron, there are very specific cases when you want to have a Blacklist group, for example, you don't want your competitors to receive your newsletter, but they keep re-subscribing even when you delete them. The Weekly Newsletter segment in the video was created to demonstrate how to create the segment in MailerLite. This particular segment may not suit your marketing needs. If you need any help to segment your mailing list, you can contact our support team (support@mailerlite.com), and they will give you the best advice tailored to your marketing strategy 😊

In your example of using a "Group" - why do you have to EXCLUDE groups in the recipient list, if you are checking only 1 box for a group to receive it?
@MailerLiteOfficial4 жыл бұрын
Hi there! :) That's in case there's someone in the "Weekly Newsletter" group we don't want to send that newsletter to. Subscribers can belong to multiple groups and there are times when you might want to send a newsletter to a specific group but don't want to send it to another group. So if a subscriber belongs to the excluded group, although they belong to the included group, they will not be a part of the campaign. Hope this makes sense.

Why do you have to go down the list in groups and click to delete groups after you have chosen which group you want to send to? It seems like clicking the one you want to send to should be enough, and clicking to delete all the others is a LOT of extra work.

@@MailerLiteOfficial This video went WAY too fast and skipped over too many options. Throw this out and make a new one. I had to watch it several times, and the answer to the question above was helpful. Don't be in such a hurry to make a video - I don't like watching things multiple times to keep up with the fast pace. The other videos are all perfect - I don't know what when wrong with this one. And... use different names. Why would a segment be the same name as a group? That makes it even more confusing.

you lost me there... Can one send a newsletter to a specific group , without excluding other groups (why this part?). Lets say i have daily and a monthly groups, and i want to only send to the monthly group, as the subscribers agreed to only receive monthly newsletters. Why would i exclude the daily group?
@MailerLiteOfficial2 жыл бұрын
Hi BBZM, there is no need to exclude the daily group in your scenario. But imagine a different scenario where you would want to exclude the daily group: You have 1 subscriber who is a member of both the monthly and daily group. You are sending newsletters every day to the daily group so he is receiving all your emails. Once a month, you send your most successful daily email to monthly subscribers. To avoid this 1 subscriber, who is a member of both groups, receiving the newsletter he already received in the past, you will want to exclude the daily group. When you exclude the daily group, all the subscribers who are also in the monthly group will *not* receive your newsletter.

I think you should rerecord this video. You introduce 29 different distinctions (popup forms, groups, subscribers, a complete red herring in a blacklist group, drafts folder, campaigns, schedule, oops can't do that cos no subcribers, excluding people for one reason which has got nothing to do with the popup form where you started, then duplicating a newsletter. And I could go on and on. And you're 2 minutes into a video where all I wanted to know was the different between a group and a segment and you've talked about everything but. For the sake of your current and prospective customers I think you should rerecord this.
