How do you keep it green in that heat without watering?
@mistermyself1128
@mistermyself1128 2 жыл бұрын
@@Nikolasto77 Its very hot but we have good rain seasons. Snow up north means rain to us. So April, I aerate(few times a year if i can), then seed and let my grass grow out so the roots grow too. I use a dessert burmuda grass for full sun. Not 6-8 hrs but 10+. Not the most expensive grass but hard to get sometimes. When I cut it down, I use every level til I get to my height to get small clippings. Too large clippings and it will shade the ground and nothing grows under. Just over a golf course height. I weed N feed 3 times a year with 2-3 additional feedings and always leave clippings on the yard. My grass turns on about 90°+ at about 100° the weeds all die in full sun and my grass fills in the spots. Since I cut it shorter than I started it, the roots are longer than the grass and they get the nutrients out of the clippings to stay strong.

@@Nikolasto77 Dont give the grass too much credit. I didnt use it for 3 or 4 years and I got results. I never watered. When I did use the grass, I over seeded maybe 2 or 3 years and that was years ago. It spread to my neighbors yard and he has a professional crew that comes in, he waters, and it still doesnt look like mine. Aerating is so important. Treating your specific weeds. I use halts in the fall and spring because we have a lot of monkey and crab crass in the area. The feedings and leaving the clippings. When you leave the clippings its like fertilizing the yard every week.

I don't use irrigation either and always have the nicest darkest carpet-like grass in the neighborhood, also here in the Northeast even in the sunniest hottest days of summer. I use Fairview's grass seed, in my case the sunny mixture. I don't like mixes that are only fescues. They tend to get floppy unless mowed constantly and very low, and they don't have that dark green carpet look that we all want. I mow high to suppress weeds and I use the same starter fertilizer but be really careful not to use more than once every 4 months or you can burn your lawn. I also treat with gypsum which makes the ground much softer and germination more likely. Then I treat every so often with a little iron and humic acid. I never use milorganite, as I kind of find that disgusting to have my kids running around on that. The grass stays so nice with the starter fertilizer months later anyway, that it isn't necessary. I do leave my grass clippings behind though which is probably supplying it with additional nitrogen. Weeds will try to make a comeback despite all this,and you need to walk around daily just grabbing a weed here and there to save yourself a lot of work further down the line.

Hello, fella Mass. resident here. I'm planning to do a full de-thatching, aeration, overseed/starter fert in a few weeks on my 1.5 acre property, the catch is I don't have irrigation. I've copied your sprinkler design and plan on making a few more. My question is, what is more harmful once I overseed, not watering at all, or walking on the lawn to move the sprinklers around?
@evanm8
@evanm8 5 жыл бұрын
I recommend watering if there are stretches (more than 3 days) without water, but otherwise leave it be. Especially in the first week of germination. Fortunately it looks like we are getting into a cooler pattern with showers and storms a couple days each week. Light traffic shouldnt do any long term damage to new germination once it is over an inch or so, so moving a sprinkler around would be okay (prior to initial germination, and 2 weeks after initial germination.)

I know you must get tired of hearing this but Great video and info! I like you, use the Black Beauty Ultra seed and have had good luck with it but it is very slow to germinate and requires lots of water. How would you compare the Lesco Team Mates Plus to Black Beauty Ultra? Does the Lesco grow thick and dark green like the Black Beauty Ultra? I also have areas around my Home that does not get the "sprinkler" treatment and for this the Lesco looks like a winner. Here in Central MA my water bill averages $120 a month and that doubles during the Summer months so any way to save some $$ would certainly help. I just signed up on the siteone page and found a Dealer 9 miles from my house so I will have to stop by and check them out.

Hi SC. Just wanted to chime in at approximately ten months post renovation seeing how the non-irrigation lawn has progressed, especially during this critical point in time of the summer season. Has it held up with minor turf injury or has it gone south? Are the trees helping shade areas that are surviving versus areas of full sun? Like what you're doing. Keep it real. ~ Mike

not sure if youve done it yet, but spray first, wait 3 days, mow short, aerate/seed/fert and lime. honestly you can spray at the time of seeding as well, so order doesnt matter so much. You'll get better aeration results by mowing first though.

Hi. Beautiful lawn. I live in Texas, my parent's lawn is 100% covered with all sorts and variety of different weeds, we don't have sprinkler system for 5 yrs now, so we barely use any water. I want to treat this product into the lawn, but I was wondering if is safe for pets. My furchild eats grass for his digestive system. Thanks for the information video. Have a bless wk!

Tenacity is rated to be safe for pets after it's applied and dries fully. BUT if you know your pup is eating a lot of grass it still may not be the best idea. The kill window for weeds is only about 2-3 weeks so after they die off the area should be even better for animals so keeping him out for a while might be the best option. Hope this helps.

Yes, it will work, even with tall fescue, the trick is: MOW VERY HIGH. Like 4.5 inches.

You should mulch a newly-fertilized lawn. The grass has soaked up all the nutrients and you want to return them to the soil.

Can you point to information about the Team Mates Plus which shows it was designed to be drought tolerant?

I wish I could send you a link. I love Lesco products but they post almost nothing online.If you visit any local siteone dealer they can explain thr products and share the packaging with you. Most Lesco products are sold through landscapers but all are available direct to to the public. They do not sell online to anyone. Makes it tough to shop from home but based on my experience well worth the trip to their stores.

Yeah I don't know if this would work for me in Virginia. We have rainy springs and falls, but summers can be dry and so hot the grass will go dormant and turn brown.

I have to plant 1.786 acres of grass with no readily available water. This is turning into a bigger project than I really though. 😅😅

Great tutorial! I'm wondering will you aerate, overseed and fertilize the area each September?

Did you throw some soil on seeds? Or just threw seeds and thats all?
@SilverCymbal
@SilverCymbal 5 жыл бұрын
If you have aerated like I did spreading rhe seeds should be enough, many will just go in the holes and you can rake it you want but in my experience it works really well just the way I did it.

Great video! I’m getting ready to follow this method. Question is I have lots of bumps and low spots I’d like level out across the whole lawn. Level or seed first? Or seed now and level in the spring? Thank you for your videos!
@SilverCymbal
@SilverCymbal 5 жыл бұрын
You want to level before seeding if possible but you may not have enough time. So you can definitely seed now and level in late spring. So both ways can work. Thanks
