These Carrot seeds were sat on wet tissue in a plastic box indoors for about 10 days. The packet says 14 to 21 days for germination. That's probably what you can expect sowing directly outdoors, but indoors, where you can better control the temperature and humidity its much faster and more reliable. Now all we have to do is transfer the germinated seeds into their final growing stations and wait a few months to harvest our own Home Grown Veg.

@HomeGrownVeg I want to germinate my seeds the same way you germinated them in tissue but when i go to plant the fully germinated speouted seeds im wanting to plant each one into a small planter about 3 inches wide and then once they are sprouted to about 4 inches tall im wanting to replant each of those sprouted seeds directly into the ground is that a okay thing to do or will it shock the plant to much if i move it once more after the germinated sprout is planted into soil and about 4 inchs tall! Pretty much im wanting to grow them straight in the ground after germinating them in tissue but im afraid they would be to small to grow in the direct outside elements which is why im thinking of adding the step of letting them grow a bit bigger before sticking them out in direct elements! I live in montana thank you for such a good depth video!

Warmth is no issue here in Texas, but it's so dry here that the upper few inches of soil dries out so quickly that it affects seed germination. I always had poor success with carrots. But I tried this method last fall (carrots are a 'winter' crop here) after watching some of Jim's videos, and it worked! Largest carrot harvest I've ever had! Will 100% be pre-germinating carrot seeds this way from now on

I agree Jim. We're so anxious to get our gardens started that sometimes we start too early. I am certainly guilty of that! I planted lots of seeds and starts outdoors some weeks ago when it was warm. It was very deceptive weather (even for the weatherman who assured us all chance of frost was over! Ha!) Some are growing and thriving and some are either slower coming up or not going to. We shall see! I probably will start some more inside using your method. It's a sure go! Funny thing is I did have to go get my specs! Hope all's well with you, yours, and the pups. Take care.👵😊🌱🥕🥕

I have loads of chilli seedlings from the paper towel method and I have been potting up all week with them. Two nights ago I have put yellow solar carrots and purple carrots on paper towel in plastic box. I have also done beetroot and a few other veg seeds. Last week I did the same method with carnation seeds and wow they took in three days. They are now in seed trays and doing great. I thought they would have been difficult but they are easy. So plenty of bag filling to be done now.

This is a genius idea! I'm so glad I stumbled upon you while scrolling through KZbin. You've inspired me to give parsnip growing another chance. I tried years ago when I lived in far northern NH with only a 90 day growing season. I planted the seeds under a board and would check them every day. After probably a month a few seeds popped up but with so little summer left, they weren't able to be pulled until the following spring. I think I got 3 parsnips. I never grew them again...until now...until I found you. 4 days after putting the carrot and parsnip seeds between the damp paper towels, I saw signs of germination. Incredible. It's now the end of July and Im now living in Midcoast Maine so I've gained a bit longer growing season. I've also decided to attempt growing my garden in grow bags this year for the first time. 10, 15 and 20 gallon bags. I harvested the bag of carrots a couple of weeks ago and started a new bunch in the same bag hoping to get a second harvest before our first frost in October. I wish there were a way to attach the photo of that first batch of carrots. I had to laugh. Many of them looked like people with extra appendages and such if you know what I mean :-). They were quite the sight! I'm wondering if I waited too long to get them into the soil. Maybe I disrupted the tiny root. A few of the germinated seeds had started to attach to the paper towel by the time I planted them. Anyway, I'm looking forward to what (or who :-) ) I pull out of the parsnip bag when the time comes. Anyway, You're my new hero. I love these videos. You really have inspired me. Thanks. And if there's a way to attach a photo here, I'll gladly send along that colander full of the craziest looking carrots you've ever seen!
