Variety: Possibly Datura stramonium, Datura metel, or cross breed
Location: Thailand
Common names: Purple Ballerina Datura, Double Purple Datura, Angel's Trumpet, Devil's Trumpet, thornapples, jimsonweeds, devil's weed, hell's bells
CAUTION! Datura plants are poisonous. They can kill. No part of the plant should not be ingested in any shape or form. Keep young children and pets away from Datura plants. You have been WARNED!
NOTES: It was my experience growing Datura plants from fresh seed pods is that they grew quite easily and quickly. Soak seeds for 24 hours before planting. Do not scarify the seeds. I kept the soil moist but not saturated and the temperature was least 72F / 22C. Sprouts appeared in 9 days. Put a clear top on the sprouts to maintain moisture levels if living in a dry climate. Thin the seedlings as necessary and transplant either into larger pots or into garden. If you would like to see periodic updates leave a comment below.

It’s a datura metal hybrid, known in the gardening community as purple people eater. Beautiful ruffled purple and white flowers that emit a fragrance in late afternoon/evening. One added bonus of being toxic is that they’re deer resistant. Certain insects will nibble on leaves.

Plant after the last frost date in your area in full sun. They are heavy feeders, and will benefit from a high phosphorus fertilizer. Look for a water soluble one, like miracle grow, as they also will benefit from a good drink. As for size, it depends on other variables, but count on between 2 to 5 feet. Enjoy

Looks like a hybrid. The pods are similar to stramonium, but the seeds are similar to inoxia, wrightii and metel (lighter in color). My guess would be one of the last 3, as stamonium tends to have a consistently black seed; hard to tell until it flowers

Im seeing this vid too late . I dp have a hard time growing these from seeds . Sometimes its a total fail . This year i did the soaking . Then i placed seeds betwn 2 moist paper towels . This was then put in a zip loc bag with the seal opened , bag placed on a plant warming pad and this was put in a sunny south window . 7 days in and nothing . Do you think my method will work ? Im concerned bc i cant tell successfully germinating seeds from ones that are ruined by moisture and rotting . Sigh . If you have any thoughts or tips , i'd love to hear em. I cant start over though bc i have no more seeds . Thanks for your video !!
@LuckyDogTraveler
@LuckyDogTraveler 5 ай бұрын
It takes a while for the seeds to germinate, so please be patient. I never used the moist paper towel method so hard for me to say what the problem might be. You didn't mention where the seeds were obtained from, but in general I have found that if seeds are not germinating, it's often because the seeds were not viable to begin with, and not a problem with the method.
