OMG, the BEST video I have ever watched regarding Hydrangias! Clear, concise, you took your time with explanation and showed excellent examples of what you were trying to convey. For a newbie who wants hydrangias but have been so confused, I finally feel like I understand each variety and what will grow in my garden. This will my go to video to refer back to over and over. Love your chanel, thank you Eric and Christopher!! 🙌🤩💖

I think I might need an intervention. I started out two years ago with two Endless Summer varieties, a Bloomstruck and a Summer Crush(?) that I got on clearance at Hewitt’s. I knew nothing about hydrangeas or how to care for them, but they did great on their own. That led to Bobo(2), Little Lime(2), Firelight(1), Puffer Fish(2) and Annabelle(they are absolutely terrible, wish I had done more research)last year, and Let’s Dance Can Do(3)Incrediball (2, to replace Annabelle), Mini Mauvette(3) and Wee White(4)this year. I’m sure I’ll stop after I get the Tuff Stuff Ah-Ha and Let’s Dance Sky View that I desperately need..I blame the two of you.😂😂 Thank you for always providing such detailed information on every topic you cover.

love this video...having said that...I have a dumb question :) I have a client that has a "mountain" hydrangea/lace cap that has grown way to big--what and when is the best time to "cut it back" to bring it under control--I am sure there is going to be a risk of losing blooms for a year. I have advised that it is not wise to hack it back but just I would ask you both--experts :) thank you.

If it isn't a rebloomer I would cut it immediately after the blooms fade. Cut back evenly so it keeps the tidy shape.

I planted them three years ago and they are in full sun most of the day. I haven’t had a bloom yet because of deer, weird winter weather, my own ignorance re pruning, etc. When you say “winter protection,” what do you recommend? I haven’t been doing anything except adding a little extra mulch, but maybe I need to wrap them in something? We live right on the wild Atlantic Ocean, zone 6b, so I am thinking my plants might be too exposed to the elements, especially in the winter months.

In your climate, panicle hydrangeas may follow growth measurements, beautiful bloom coloration, etc., but in the Deep South they tend to not be as aggressive, nor provide bloom coloration, and begin dormancy as the heat progresses…..bloom panicles turn dark brown and leaves begin to yellow and fall off….. 😩😩😩
