I use the paper towel method to germinate my dawn redwoods. Don't try to pull it loose! Let the root embed into the fabric, and then cut around it with a razor blade. It will leave everything intact, but also act as a weight. Wet it and then stick it into your soil/mix. Now, for my pepper seeds, I put about thirty of them into a KoolAid lid with a hole drilled in it. I set that into a peanut butter jar lid, and they fit like a glove. I got 100% germination, and am now trying to figure out what to do with all of these seedlings! BTW, you have a very handsome cat!

I did separate seed germination method using wet paper towel and direct sowing into soil. Both sprouted healthily same time. Found out, no need to do the wet paper towel method with peppers

did you get the same pepper? ive read sometimes peppers can be hybrids so you would not be able to get the same pepper from the seeds

Actually, we bought the peppers pre dried from wal-mart, so no drying was required for these guys. But if you're drying seeds from fresh peppers, it shouldn't take anymore than a few days for them to completely dry out. Just place the seeds on a dry paper towel and put them on a warm windowsill. That should do the trick. I wish you luck with your peppers! i'll be growing 10 pepper variety's in my (First year) raised beds. Probably biting of more than I can chew lol. But it will be fun.

Thanks for posting this video. I had some dried Guajillo seeds, I threw in my front yard and had a hard time figuring out if it was indeed pepper seedlings sprouting out. I learned my lesson and will only start my seeds in containers from now on. Do you have a video on your set up for compost tea?

Did these ever produce fruit? Were the plants true to the original store-bought peppers? Great vid by the way!
@Grow_Everything11 жыл бұрын
If left unpruned, they should start to set fruit about 1 month after sowing. If pruned, they will set fruit in about 2 months but the yield will be higher.

I have store bought dried guajillo. Can I plant those seeds or should it come from fresh guajilo? Thank you.

Did you actually get real peppers from it?

This is a very good idea but how close were your chilis to the ones you took the seeds from? Wouldn't your chilis be genetically different from the ones you bought?

I have them growing from dry guajillo peppers ...and have many other dry peppers growing ... Started them indoors in the winter and plants are now in my outdoor garden and have lots of peppers...:) Good Luck

You will need to take the First 9-10 flowers off your peppers.. I downt remember why, but it is importent:)

It gives the plant more time to mature and in the long run it will produce a larger fruit in higher quantity. When I see the first flowers come out on my peppers I just top the plant entirely. The result is a stout strong stemmed plant with many branches that requires no side support while fruiting. A little method I learned from "Praxxus55712" here on KZbin. :)

Has anyone here tried doing this with store bought green bell peppers? I read on an article that this won't work with store bought peppers.
@danielbrochu24373 жыл бұрын
What I heard is that green bell peppers won’t work because the green color means that the pepper is not completely ripe yet. I heard you can replant seeds from either red, orange, or yellow bell peppers, but not green. I can’t guarantee that this is true but it sounds right to me so I thought I’d share.
@juanaleon78412 жыл бұрын
Yes you can but only from a red bell pepper. I planted some last year and they produced fruit.

I keep hearing from everyone who talks about seeds that the plants you will get from seeds will not be anything like the peppers you bought????? Did you find this to be true or false. I tried this with some mini bell peppers I saw in the store that were really good ... but they plants never really lived. What's the deal here?
@counterstrifekid7 жыл бұрын
Could be the chemicals put into the ground when mass farmed making the plants less able to make fertile seeds, but I am probably wrong.

Jackson Fortune i think it's more on the line of what the parent plants were... i know for a fact that seeds from a red apple can produce a tree with green apples becuase the other parent plant was green
