One quick thought…Danny if we get hit with an EMP, that means grid down for years, how will we know if the home emp protection worked w/o a power source? (no full house generator) Just my thoughts on this my friend..ugh.

You're so right, Danny. The wet air in the south is freezing at 50 degreesand below for me! I've been in Florida at my sons house for the past 4 months. Up on Lookout Mountain Alabama, the cold is totally different. I can handle the cold at my home up there. I'm getting ready to go back home up there and get ready for spring planting. Start the seeds in doors. We're growing a whole lot of food this next season. 👍

Thank you Mr. Dan for another great porch time message. I live here in south west Michigan on 5 acres & wow, is it cold. Suppose to get down to around 0 degrees tonight with more sub O''s nights ahead. It's amazing that the cold weather crops are surviving in the greenhouse with no heat in there. I do have another layer of 6mil plastic over them & it's working. I can have a salad every day if I want. That just amazes me, but I thank the Lord for it. We had very successful gardens 2 years in a row. My dear wife canned a lot for the two of us. Now, it's just for me. The Lord took her home 10 weeks ago. We both got covid. I survived, but my wonderful wife didn't. Man, does that hurt bad! I know you know what that's like. I'm so glad she is with the Lord & I'm so glad I'll be there also, hopefully soon. Until then, I'll continue to raise what works good here in zone 6b. Hopefully I'll have another successful garden. Do some canning & freeze drying, since I helped & learned from my wife. Raise more chickens & get the eggs. Maybe put up another greenhouse as well. See how long I can survive in this crazy world, that God still controls. Just keep on keeping on until my home going. Going it alone now, yet not alone cause the Lord is with me.. Thanks Danny for all your teaching. I'll continue to learn from you & Wanda. Praying 🙏 for you always. Ed.

I grew up in Cleveland, OH and would often visit relatives on the other side of the lake in London, Ontario, Canada just 80-100 miles across Lake Erie. The difference between their Cold & our Cold was interesting because it was the same temperature but different in the depth of the feel of the Cold. My father explained that in Canada your skin freezes faster and traps your warmth inside, so you don't need as much clothes in Canada. I believed him and packed less clothes for the trip, so there was always plenty of room in the car. I still borrowed winter wear from my cousins in Canada while they ran around in T-shirts. LOL

Keep speaking the truth Danny regardless of the naysayers and mockers. I am grateful for your weekly porchtime and am also very thankful that the Lord gave me the gift of discernment so that I can clearly see what is going on and not be easily deceived. For those that have ears let them hear and those that have eyes let them see. For those that choose not to see or hear, and there are plenty of those type of folks, well, be it on their own heads. May our God continue to bless both you and Miss Wanda and Deep South Homestead.

After I read my Bible, my journal entry literally was asking the Lord to bless my seedlings as it’s time to get some started. I allow myself one or two you tubes in the morning before I get up and begin the rest of my day. What was the first one in que? Porch time about planting. Isn’t God something? ❤️

Getting EMP for the homesteader is an excellent idea. Grow zones and selecting the correct plants for your area is critical. People don't understand the different length of time it takes to grow out certain types of crops. Choosing the correct harvest grow out time or choosing something that is not growable due to temperature and weather is definitely a given. Some people don't realize also that sometimes it takes two or three years saving seed to acclimate certain plants to your area. Great advice Danny.

Yes, Danny, exactly right concerning planting crops with a range of temperatures tolerated. The Grand Solar Minimum is real, planned into the cycles of the sun from the beginning of Creation. We moved south 4+ years ago when we learned of it. Our farm has several growing zones because of a gradual eastern slope. At the top is the "tropical" garden, where sensitive plants thrive, and at the bottom of the slope, where frost settles, our apples and peaches love the extra chill hours. Corn: Painted Mountain, developed for cold mountain climates but does well in southern Georgia. Potatoes north or south: Caribe. Onions: pay attention to day length! May God give us all clear sight and discernment as we choose what to plant where He's planted us.
@sheila219

Why onions and day length? I'm in upstate SC never had success w onions. Might need ck those pot out. I've never had luck w any pot. It must be operator error. I'm bound to grow at least one this yr.
@jeanproctor987
@jeanproctor987 2 жыл бұрын
@@sheila219 Some onion day length maps put upstate SC in the intermediate day group, while others put it in the short day group. You might want to try one or two varieties of each group (intermediate and short day) to see which grows best. I learned from the Deep South Homestead folk (from onion plants) and Old Alabama gardener (from seed) how to grow BIG onions in the South, and it seems like the fall-seeded onions grow biggest the next spring for me. Onion seed rarely lasts more than a year, maybe two, before it loses ability to germinate, so just buy what you need for the year. Or let 10 plants of one variety go to seed, if you want to save your own.

Thank you, Danny. Very wise words this morning. I am fighting nature in this neglected inherited east Texas homestead. I can see acres of 15 year old trees that used to be hay fields. The house only needs minor interior work now. I fenced goat pastures, have 2 so far, will repair fence of 15 acre hay field for 2 cows and a bull. Expanding and repairing chicken coop to include rabbits. Will move them in tractors. I want to feed these animals off the land, feed shortages coming. Tough to do alone and old. Son and family may come and help. Wish I had been doing this sooner, I'd be wiser. Found 4 springs on property flowing to creek, don't know what to do with them. Costs are delaying everything, but it will get done. Take care, back to work. GOD BLESS GOD SPEED GOD WINS.

Right with ya on this...we build better by focusing on what it means to be more self sufficient... indirectly creating a Shared Sufficiency.

I woke up in tears thinking of our own 5 children. I felt the spirit say "soon". Went to amish yesterday they had 3 big boxes of apples for 5$ on their seconds. I bought all 3 15$ and canning about 60 jars of applesauce. They always had a huge box of organic oranges for 35$, bought that too!. They had 100lbs of potatoes for 30$ so we bought it up too! We had a big potato crop but wasn't big enough for our family of 7 so we will be expanding this this. If we had to rely souly on ourselves, I would miss citrus fruits. I agree with you, we are native to where we are born. Hardy, like a cactus in the desert, if you move it to a cold climate it will not grow... I live in the suburbs with a decent sized back yard. We have hens and a garden. I'm also thinking about getting back into quail. The issues that we face here in California is water. It is so regulated and expensive is you go over normal usage and starting this year they are supposed to be capping how much water is used per person. Gardening takes a lot of water in desert like climates where we live. I'm trying to look into solutions for it. My husband and I are planning on leaving California in a few years due to the politics, crime and regulations. This makes me sad as a 5th generation Californian, but this state is becoming unbearable for conservatives.

Put the lid and ring on tight and submerge it in a water bath canner that has enough hot water in it to cover the jars. We do as you say, we grow for colder and hotter. It has been getting hotter in summer and colder in winter. We grow year round and also take advantage of wild plants. We are educating ourselves to make more stuff ourselves. We are investing in the necessary equipment to make our own stuff. There is nothing more satisfying than eating a home grown and homemade meal, wearing homemade clothes. I love being able to mend and repair stuff. Water is our only problem. We hope to get some good water collection going as they want to start charging us for our own well water that we already have to pay an electric bill for to get the water out of the ground. We also plant several new fruit trees every winter after the rains soften the gound. We have 4 peach trees that volunteered from peach pits. I have several avocados started. I am trying for grapefruit and various oranges this year.

Good morning. Excellent video. I believe that people should be planning how to ration what they have now or at least what a person uses most. I grew up with no power and running water. We had a generator that we used only when we needed to (like an hour per day). Communication was a C.B. radio. Lighting was oil lamps and gas lamps and heat was wood heat. Entertainment was card games like cribbage. We STILL had to go to town once per month for nuts, bolts, salt sugar, coffee, etc. We grew root crops almost exclusively, except for tomatoes and peas. We always overplanted by at least 40% due to critters and bugs and birds. I raised rabbits and fed them alfalfa and clover that I harvested myself. The point is, I don't think that existence is possible anymore. I remember my dad's shock at the OPEC crisis in 1973 when fuel tripled overnight. I also remember his shock when a bureaucrat showed up to inspect the outhouse- this was in the seventies. We used to buy kerosene by the 45 gallon drum. You can't buy it by the drum now because of new regulations (at least in my area). We have to have a permit for chickens and feed (see where I' going here?). Nowadays most us have been DRIVEN to dependency on ever larger integrated suppliers and by regulatory structure. I completely agree with your assessment that we are going to experience grid failure soon (I mean this winter). The stars are too aligned for this kind of event not to occur. I amazed that you can grow pineapples. That means that you can grow ginger as well. Handy plant to have for medicine. Have a nice day.

Hi Danny, Hello from Rochester NY.. I was born on Keesler Air Force base, Biloxi Mississippi, you're only a few months older than I am. I agree with everything you're saying about temperature and humidity. Most people have no clue of real knowledge because they accept what they are told by America's slave masters. I was told 10 years ago by an Oncologist that if I did everything he was going to tell me that he could get me upto 4 more years of life, with a little luck. I walked out of his office ticked off. I've done almost nothing in the past 10 years recommended, 3 times I've been at stage 4 and given only months to live and 3 times I've beaten cancer back into submission using knowledge right out of the Bible and some common sense. I'm glad to see you healthy and still taking a stand for a free America under the 1 true God. May YHWH bless you with many more years!!! Pastor Steve, formally known to you as sfetterly.

@@FloridaGirl- YES!! I follow him and am using some of his methods. I've been growing Seminole pumpkins for about 5 years now,lol, it grew 160' long up on top of the roof of our house! I get about 5 harvests a year from it. We just cut it back as we reworked that area of our kitchen garden area adding tea plants near the area of the olive tree. My husband got tired of tripping over it and the kids were saying enough! It's on year 3 for this one plant! This plant gives me only 5 pumpkins each time but then it restarts so we get harvest after harvest from it. I have not tried the squash and melon pits, a wonderful idea! Yes to biochar, just did that to all the bed's last fall. My ducks just prepared another new garden area for me that will become a new fodder food area for the chickens this spring and then an extended garden area for next fall/winter gardens. I'm shocked that asparagus grows really well here! Adding many more plants to that companion planted with strawberries in pots Malabar spinach growing up bamboo teepees. Nematodes have been an issue on and off. We sprayed the mole cricket nematode organic method, very expensive so we also researched and found out about marigolds after they grow and are tilled but then I have seen recently Danny is growing mustard for the same and I have far more mustard seed I collected from our garden then marigold seeds so I'm planting an area of mustard after this years lettuce season is over in the kitchen garden. Finally getting a good amount of worm poo to also add to the gardens. Been doing the chop and drop method and leaf mold and are very happy with the results. In our new duck pen area, I'm planting banana trees, elderberry,chaya, moringa for shade and fodder food. I'm really glad Danny spoke about growing for your climate because learning new climates, food sources, harvest size as the result has been a huge asset to our family. Trying to,"adapt" food to a southern climate from a northern jut does not work for a large harvest. I have my kitchen garden to "play" with my northern varieties but I have been taking classes on Tropical gardening and it's made a huge difference! Danny hit on that today as well and People need to take his wisdom and get the tropical starts and seeds for our area going because most take a while to grow out as well as get used to texture differences in like pigeon peas to compare to say Alaskan peas or Abraham or telephone varieties of peas and the difference of regular spinach to Ethiopean, perennial, or Egyptian leaf texture. I have also found have auto-immune that my body needed time to adjust to the new foods and digesting them.

@@carlprice64 Yes, have several of his books and watch him as well. Tried the Grocery row garden method he was and is doing. Love chop and drop, and making biochar. But for us by far, especially when I go down with my heart or backHuglekulture beds have been huge benefit for us. Never have to water them and they self fertilize after the first year for up to 20 years. My first huglekulture beds are about 6 years old now and I will add more logs this year as I only had 4'' to 6'' when I first made these and with all our heat and water I needed the base to be larger logs but we have been blessed by those beds. They went the last 4 years with a wonderful harvest of sweet potatoes, moringa,hibiscus-roselle, stevia, and elderberry.

I agree. Hometown Missouri, lived in Colorado and was hiking in the snow up in the mountains with a coat on and snow up to my waist. I was hot. Missouri doesn't play around with their hot and freezing weather. Pg&e is putting lines underneath the ground.

Good morning Danny and Wanda hope your day is well people in the north don’t understand the cold down here. I was born and raised in central New York so I know the cold and snow well and the cold down here is a whole different thing. Stay safe guys

N.E. Alabama here and you are right on with our cold being colder...Northern cold ain't got nothing on us!!!! We had 19 degrees this morning too...too cold for man or beast. Lived in Alaska for a while...camped in Colorado with 3-4 feet of snow on the ground...and felt warm with very little clothing necessary.
