Thanks for sharing. There are so many videos out there where the solar projects are not justifiable but this one I agree has a real quick return on investment.

This is the most basic grid tied installation you will ever see. Just replaced two SMA-2500U's with a single Growatt after my SMA failed for a 4th time I was done. Been using SMA for over 21 years. At 65 pounds each are very heavy to deal with compared to the 33 pound Growatt. Using a MIN 5000TL-XH-US, it was so easy to install. SMA's have a 7 year warranty and I had to pay for 3 separate repairs over the years, what a pain to remove - pay to ship and repair and replace etc. I'm done with SMA. Growatt makes grid tie easy and cheap, and if it craps out - easy to replace.

Signature solar sells the US versions .. the eu versions are bonded cause they don’t use split phase overseas.. meaning it could electrify the inverter case with 120v when setup on a split phase 240 system.. idk about the 3k models I know they make two different 5k ones.. coming from signature they should be US split phase capable and safe..

If you were tying into your main panel instead of your meter, would you still tie in with just a normal double pull breaker?
@_willalexander.88Ай бұрын
@madmark30001 yes. You want the 240v option to evenly distribute the power.

Getting ready to fire mine up. I have 5, 5000w. Does it give you an opportunity to go through the setting for country etc before it starts pushing power to the grid? Thanks

Can you limit it to not feedback to grid?!?

@SolarizeYourLife yes but with additional hardware. About 200$ for digital meter that prevents energy going back to the grid.

Great video. Two questions. Is the unit waterproof and can be installed outside like you did? Can you sell back to the grid if you have net metering with this set up?
@_willalexander.889 ай бұрын
Yes it does have an IP rating. Yes if you're net metered it will push back into the grid what's over produced.
@johngrier59497 ай бұрын
Can you confirm you connect the 2 120 lines to the same phase…. My manual came in Spanish, I was wanting to to just make a two ended plug and plug into an outside outlet close to my panels vs going all the way back to breaker box and adding breakers
@_willalexander.887 ай бұрын
@@johngrier5949 you can wire this 120v or 240v. 240v is the preferred connection

Thanks for posting. I'm also wanting a simple, affordable grid tie system. I'll have 8x400w panels for 3.2kw. Outstanding question is Rapid Shutdown Devices (required in my location) and once those are factored in, is it still more simple and affordable than micro inverters? thanks for the input.
@_willalexander.885 ай бұрын
@smokeythebirdbrain absolutely. I would only use micro inverters if shade was a huge issue. GL

@@_willalexander.88 Thanks for the input. To add RSD to this inverter, I guess it would be 4x Tigo TS4-A-2F @$45/ea. And then upgrade to the MIN 3800TL-XH-US, which can communicate with the TIGO RSDs? Still fuzzy on that.
@_willalexander.885 ай бұрын
@@davidbryan-z8b no. Nothing is needed with this inverter. It shuts down when the grid goes down.
@davidbryan-z8b5 ай бұрын
@@_willalexander.88 In my area, not only does the inverter need a disconnect, but you (or a fireman) also have to be able cut power generation at the module level. Just got off the phone with Growatt support: My message above is correct to meet Rapid Shutdown Requirements (NEC 690.12) Add the Tigo TS4-A-2F or TS4-A-F at the panels, and order a ..."TL-XH-US" inverter which has a built in transmitter. Also verify with the retailer that the inverter has either the Tigo or APSmart RSD installed. Apparently they make two different version to support two different sets of products. Hope this helps anyone in the future.

@@davidbryan-z8b I am working on my design currently for the City, i have a MIN 6000TL-X , i am getting 14 of the tiago ts4-a-o unit for optimized and monitoring it will optimize each panel at each level it also monitors thew the portal and rapid shutdown threw wireless access threw the Tigo Access Point Called TAP and the CCA be fully fictional are required. NEC 1700 requires all roof mounted and Ground mounted according to my zoning. so the system on the Tigo will cost me almost 1k for everything thew Signature solar. ouch. not too happy about that. then you have a big yellow box with a red switch that you twist then push in to shut the signal off from the Tigo to the panels causing them to discharge any energy in the Aptos or any other panels. i have a question on your setup, i am trying to draw out the wireing diagram for my city and well i have to say they gave me a pdf example and it's 13mb it's crazy designed for a sunnyboy but i dont have one. the 6000tl-x is a easy setup and maybe i am over thinking this by looking at their diagram? i am in Tucson AZ trying to get the build permit to go threw. any suggestions from anyone on this portion i would welcome any feed back. thank you.

so how difficult is it to get a permit and inspections done for your unit and whats the costs / process to do that?
@_willalexander.8810 ай бұрын
Not bad at all. You will need some structural drawings if you're mounting on the roof which is the worst part. To make sure your roof can support it. About 250$ for those. The rest is an electrical riser diagram, site plan and specs. Permit was about 200$. Contact your county for a list of what you need to obtain a permit and you need to contact your service provider to fill out some stuff with them. They do an inspection after the county permit is finalized. Good to reach out before your install to see there requirements.

@@_willalexander.88 Thank you, so i got all my items in, i started to just build my array on the ground instead of on the roof. i just ordered stickers so that i can show the GroWatt is equipped with the rapid shutdown and then the DC connect. to bad i cant upload a photo here of my array i built, it's 14 Gage steel each rack holds 7 Panels for a total of 14 i have the Growatt 6kW Grid-Tie Inverter | MIN 6000TL-X, a IMO DC Disconnect Rooftop Isolator Switch located at the base of my rack then underground wires go to the PV Array to connect to the MC4 connectors and a 2 × Staubli | 15A | 1000V | In-line Fuse with MC4 Connectors that protect before the Growatt, each rack is one string i have two on my inverter i am not sure if you just have one or two. on my Rack i will have 7 Aptos 370W Bifacial Solar Panel (Black) | Up to 480W Bifacial Gain | DNA-120-BF26-370W for a total of 14 panels 7 on each string. not quite maxing out my Growatt, im at 80% i am getting 440watts from each panel not to bad. it gives me 3,080 watts on each string total watts 6,160. you spoke about the WiFi, did you ever get that resolved? i purchased the following with my unit Growatt USB Monitoring Stick | ShineWiFi-X but i guess it came with one too. they suggested that i use the one above not the one that came with the unit. all of this was purchased from Signature Solar. did you ever add on the other 4 panels yet?

Been running off grid with no permit for 4 years now with 23kw of roof solar and 66kWh of recycled Tesla S/X modules. If you live in an area with frequent blackouts/ brownouts a grid tie system is worthless. WTF is the point of solar if you powerless like everyone else in an outage? Lastly you'll pay retail for power from the grid only to receive 10% of what you pay (if you're lucky) when you sell energy back.
@_willalexander.889 ай бұрын
So, the point is to knock down your high $ bill and make your money back quick. I have a super inefficient rv hooked up full time that uses more power then my house. My power company is with it and we never lose power even during hurricanes. If we do, flip the main and plug in the generator, my solar will assist and let the generator idle mostly. I would not grid tie to make money, only to reduce my bill.
@onecrazywheel7 ай бұрын
You'd have to almost have an inverter generator to work. I years ago hooked up my propane generator 6000w and the grid tie solar system shut off due to frequency issues.
