I too really like this! The good lord works with us in mysterious ways. I regret the time I've wasted in my life. At the same time, I guess it's never to late. I don't know where my business will go, but I will not give up. For now I'm just trying to survive. Seeing this just gives me more hope and I thank you guys for taking your time to do this.

That was a great interview. I am a Firefighter full time of 22 years. My boys and I started howard912 Lawn Care during Covid, as a way to teach them entrepreneurship, saving, tithing, and a strong work ethic. We are going full legit licensed and insured this year and I love the $1 concept. It will allow me to go out and do those cuts on my days off and then transition the newly acquired customer to my sons. Also, we will be the first in my area to have trailer less set up. God Bless!

Hey Mike, not sure if you will ever see this comment, but I too have a small lawn care business in Arkansas that I started operating in June of 2021. I watch a lot of your videos as well. I absolutely loved this video and listening to you and your guest, Daniel. Thanks so much for all the time you devote to everyone that are seriously trying to learn the in's and out's of the lawn care industry!!!

This is an excellent story. People need to understand this video isn't really about the $1 cut. This is what worked for Daniel. Daniel hats off to you for having the courage to take a giant leap of faith to do something like this. It says allot about your quality of work to be able to grow a business this way.

Thank you Tim, very well said! I’m not telling anyone to do it, but I have very high confidence in my work and this even acted as accountability for me to make sure I was doing an extra good job to make them sign on. It worked for me, and that’s all there is to it!

Thinking about this... It would work in controlled conditions. Like for a neighbour of an existing client to boost density. Making it work requires specific targeting of properties that you really want, rather than desperately taking whatever you can get. I've no doubt he's being honest and it's working well, very well for him. But in my experience and specific area, a low price most often attracts the customers you'd not actually want to keep.

We offered 1 free mowing service with yearly contract over twenty years ago . last mowing of season was free . I wouldn't recommend offering first mowing for $ 1.00 because people will use you and cancel.

That’s a fair point Ron. In my experience people will always try to take advantage of you no matter what. But the results have been undeniable. It may not be for everyone but I got the idea from millionaires who use it, and my business has seen 500% growth since I started it. We have a great client base as I do still have freedom to turn anybody down that I want. Hope this adds clarity.

Yes I would definitely not offer $1 cuts. We charge double for the first cut for bad yards. Low pricing Pushes a company to look like a company who is low quality but cheap. I can't imagine having an issue finding lawns to cut for a smaller company. Not only are you losing money but you are attracting the wrong kind of customer.

I don’t do this but I disagree. The cost of obtaining a new customer can be $40-$100 especially if it’s an optimal location like next door to your existing clients. Sometimes being creative can grow your business especially if you are looking to expand. Now it your just trying to work on profitability then no it’s not optimal.

I think I might steal that $1 first cut idea..... my current client list is 9 for about $4k/month PT.... but pushing into snow season I've gotta let go of my full time job..... so next season my goal is to push to 50+ clients.... this might just be a way to do it cheaply

Yeah I think your math is wrong. $4k/mo from 9 customers? $4,000/4.735 = $914.28/wk $914.28/wk / 9 customers = $101.58/cut. Unless you're doing about just under an acre each customer, idk if that math checks out.

I understand the $1 concept by why not do a 50% off the 1st cut ? Im pretty sure you will get the same amount of business... the $1 seems like overkill and completely crazy. Just my opinion
@danielthomas617
@danielthomas617 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a fair question Kevin. To be honest I’ve never tried it, but my answer would be that 50% off is a good deal, but $1 is simply irresistible. You can call it crazy if you want, to each his own. But I would add that I got this trick from millionaires, and my business has had 500% growth since implementing it. Hope this gives some clarity

I've been thinking giving one discounted mow for a 6-12 month program (weekly vs biweekly) would be a good idea. What the discount would be? Idk yet.. but it's more than a 1$ 😅

we have tried the greatly discounted first cut flyers and man did we get crappy customers coming out of the woodwork. i believe lawncare millionaire says no to do that in some of his videos. Set the expectation of quality not low prices
@danielthomas617
@danielthomas617 2 жыл бұрын
Some poor quality clients have and will always come around for sure. But I do still have the freedom to turn down anyone who I feel will be a problem. We set the expectation of quality by blowing their socks off with it even though they pay a dollar and then see why the normal price is $60 or whatever it ends up being. We have a client base we really enjoy and we have seen 500% growth in two years after starting this. I also got the idea from actual millionaires. It may not be for everyone or every territory. Good luck with whatever route you choose!

How about making the customer sign a contract at time of first cut
@danielthomas617
@danielthomas617 2 жыл бұрын
Scott, we thought about this. But ended up making it no strings attached. The idea was the make the customer have no reason to turn us down and to see if we’re good at our job risk free. When we give them the regular price, they see that our work is worth it. I felt that by requiring them to sign a contract it is even more intimidating than taking a chance on a $50 lawn mowing and therefore counteracting the purpose of the no brainer. But it may work for others

Not sure of the 1st cut for $1. Maybe the 5th cut to be sure you make some $ from the customer.
@danielthomas617
@danielthomas617 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the input Jeremiah. Personally the reason we don’t do it that way is because I would not be enticed by a $1 5th cut. The purpose is to creat what’s called a “no brainer” essentially the customer can’t turn the offer down. When a homeowner is shopping for lawn care they have to hear all the prices and decide which company they think is most worth the price before hiring them. With us, you can’t not try us out for $1, and then we get a chance to show the quality of our work and prove that we are worth our price before you even hear it. I’m not saying everybody should do it this way, but it was worked tremendously for us, and I actually got this idea from multiple millionaire entrepreneurs

Tell your customers you will offer a 20% discount if they let you do larger landscape jobs in the winter instead of spring , summer or fall , still do as much as you can but any customers willing to wait , especially doing hardscape or drainage can be done any time will help you stay busy , and free up time for the jobs that are season specific , like aeration and seeding, landscape installation of plants and trees , sodding , mowing and pruning mulching etc.
