Hi there from Alberta! I appreciate your video. I have grown ginger for a few years but never planted them in the ground. I will be planting them in my greenhouse this year after our frost is done! Happy day. Take care, Annette🌺

What is the best way to store fresh ginger and how long will it keep?
@NicolesGardenNS

A couple days on the counter, a couple weeks in the fridge. If you won’t use it in that time, freezing it works very well! Thanks for watching 😊

@NicolesGardenNS am trying to extend my gardening time. And am thinking of planting in the greenhouse tomatoes and green peppers. Cause they are not frost tolerent. Was just thinking of two plants each. And then the rest in garden beds around greenhouse. But not sure what to do. Of if I am wasting my time. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

That all sounds great, you can definitely plant into the greenhouse a few weeks earlier than you would outside. Good luck!

Would you transfer from pot to garden or would you just plant in wide pots and bring it outside when the temp warms up?
@NicolesGardenNS
@NicolesGardenNS 9 ай бұрын
I won’t plant it into the garden in my climate because it won’t survive the winter. Keeping in pots means I don’t have to disturb it when it comes time to move it in/out

I am in Ontario, if I started inside would you suggest transferring into the garden mid June or just leave in the pot and transfer outside?
@NicolesGardenNS
@NicolesGardenNS 9 ай бұрын
You can do both. Leaving it in the pot will mean more maintenance (feeding/watering) but will make it easier to transfer in & out. If you plan to harvest the whole thing at the end of the season, plant it in the ground when soil temperatures are above 15 in the spring.

I start ginger and Tumeric in March in a heat mat, it needs a long growing season.

Your video was helpful. Thank you! I'm a newbie gardener (because of covid) and I harvested some ginger yesterday for the first time!!!!!! I planted three pieces in March and now have seven plants with multiple stalks! So exciting! I harvested and took a few pieces for tea but DID NOT know to refrigerate it till using. Thx for mentioning that... I usually store cured ginger in freezer then grate into my tea. Thx again for sharing the info! ❤ HSTL zone 6🫚🫚🫚🫚🫚🫚🫚

That’s awesome, great job! We’ve had so much gloomy rain here I’m not sure how mine have done this year, but here’s hoping for a small harvest at least.

Keeping the soil warm can I use a small electric infrared on a shelf under the pots of ginger to provide warmth? As summer progresses in southern Virginia the nights are warm so outside raised bed will be good. Any companion plants helpful? Caster beans? Trace minerals? I really would love blossoms.

I can’t speak on that type of heat source because I’ve never used it! And so far I haven’t done any companion planting.
