Back in the day I used to think avocado only grew in temperate and/or high altitude environments, then I went to Sri Lanka and saw avocado trees growing everywhere, and no one was eating them. Inspired me to bring a few and plant some seeds for my own little garden.

I have to add. They planted them out into pots of soil and then into the garden. None have produced any fruit as yet because it takes anywhere from 3 to 4 years or longer to blossom. But as some one said they make lovely house plants. Keep topping up the water to touch the seed.

I gave it a try once by allowing the seed to soak halfway in water indoors during the winter. After a month or so, I had a good 4ft plant growing. The leaves were beautiful. Unfortunately, I got rid of it because I kept finding these silver bugs in the soil. Every time I watered it they would scurry everywhere like mites. I was so proud of my plant and I really showed it ❤️ lol.
@kimberlywalker65654 жыл бұрын
Did you ever find out what were the bugs and where they came from
@mcharmayne82714 жыл бұрын
kimberly walker I read that they could be some sort of organic soil mites. They like the wet organic soil. I didn’t notice that were doing any harm, but I just didn’t want to chance them moving to something else.

Sure you can grow an avocado tree from the seed but what they do not tell you is that it will never produce any avocados. In order to get avocados the branch of a tree that does produce avocados must be grafted to the new tree. Good luck with that!

What you said is not always true. Did some KZbin research and many have tried and succeeded. Of course there are chances that it may not fruit, and than there are chance that the fruits will not be true to type. Go out there and try it people. Don't ever let someone tell you its impossible.

I didn't do all that much, I stuck a seed in the ground and it started growing a while later and still going strong.

I did the same thing...none of what's in this video is necessary. However, seedlings from avocado seeds will not produce fruit for 10 to 15 years. Trees grown from a seed are best used as rootstock for grafting purposes.

I live in Missouri, I have a tree I started from the seed that is about 5 feet tall, I have had it for almost 4 years now. I set it outside during the summer and bring it in in the winter. When I started it I just simply put the seed in some dirt and kept it watered and it eventually started to grow. I have had better luck starting them that way as opposed to the method shown in this video.

My English immigrant friend who moved to the cooler south from tropical Queensland managed to sprout some avocados for me even in our colder climate down south using a similar method using toothpicks etc. But another horticultural expert who operated a nursery said that, although I can get an avocado tree which can look quite ornamental, if I had any expectations of beautiful avocado fruit hanging off it, to forget it this far south. They are, it seems, mainly a tropical or subtropical thing. And so expensive here in the south of Australia.

You need more and more time to grab the fruit when you grow avocade from seed. It may take 7-9 years for the plant to bear fruit. You better do grafting for the sedling. It only need 2.5 or 3 years to see the fruit.
@sukaynanathani1164 жыл бұрын
Sri Hartono maybe that’s why avacados are expensive.
@randomthings924974 жыл бұрын
Hi, what do you mean by grafting?
@totonsutoton49954 жыл бұрын
@@randomthings92497 Grafting is attaching scion from other plant which has produced fruits to the seedling (plant grow from seed). It's very common in Indonesia to do grafting. If you plant it in a container, you only need 1 year to see the fruits. Just check How to Graft here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGbPpKd8q62deM0.

I just tossed a couple of seeds in my mulch pile and they grew. if you can't grow one for avocado production, you can always use the leaves as a spice, I found out they have a slight taste like anis but I haven't tried it yet, two plants grew but winter set in and I buried them in straw, don't know if they survived. but I will grow a couple more and take them inside for the winter.
