Thanks for this video. I'm growing two Barbados cherry's from pits send as a gift with another purchase. They are only about 6" but full of leaves and strong. I'm glad to know they will adapt to a container.

@@gardenofluma9697 I was surprised when they 'hatched.' I like germinating seeds so always have a variety of seeds soaking or in the fridge or freezer. I'm luckiest with trees like pale verde, mesquite, allepo pine, dates (I have 17 plants but they take patience!) and I'm trying to sprout peach pits from my Bonanza peach that produced 9 delicious peaches this year. I live in Tucson.

if you are looking for something with a similar taste to traditional cherry or plum that grows in hot climates i would recommend Flacourtia indica. Fyi this tree has lots of sharp spines.

I am from Barbados and I live in Florida. I was excited to see the Barbados Cherry Tree and bought one from a nursery. I want to grow it in the pot. Any special care? I will transfer it into a bigger pot and add Miracle Grow soil and fertilizer. Thanks!

I can’t believe the name of the tree is Barbados cherry lolol 😂 I’m from the island of Barbados 🇧🇧 in the Caribbean and we call it Bajan cherry because that’s what you call locals from Barbados (Bajan pronounce bay Jan or Barbadians) these trees obviously grow wild here I love to just eat them straight off the tree or I blend them with water, Angostura bitters, lime, honey and cinnamon

Thanks for sharing, great video. I am interested in the organic fertilizers you use - the fish emulsion and liquid seaweed. What's your feeding schedule? Any recommended brands?

How does it respond to pruning, i.e., does it stall out and take time to recover or does it stimulate growth?

Yep they can be sour if eaten at the wrong stage but there are other varieties which are naturally sweet even when eaten at a yellowish or bright red colour. To me the suriname cherry is more palatable & has a texture similar to your tmperate cherries.

@@gardenofluma9697 you must taste them as eith the barbados cherry you have th est them when they are deep scarlet red but to me they are nicer in taste & texture. The soil & growing requirements are basically the same as the bardados cherry full sun well drained soil apply a little potash when its followering & water well & cover over with netting from the birds & you will enjoy your harvest i am sure remember eat only when deep deep ruby red in colour
