Now, Alan.... You are in the South. It's not pronounced Okra, it's Okree.... Ask Travis at Lazy Dog Farm, he will back me up on this one. Just like Houston County in Georgia is pronounced How-ston..... It's a southern thing. We planted our onions in early November and pulled them this week. They are not as big as usual, but they will still eat just fine. I should have thinned them more. Some were started from seed (Grannex hybrid), and others were from Dixondale Farms this season. I may have to give wicking tubs a go as I still have the material to make 8 more if I want.

You are right about the pronunciation. In fact, I have a shirt from host tools that says 0K - REE.

My onions fell over really early this year and were all tiny. I grow in a raised bed but didn’t feed them like I usually do. Makes a big difference evidently.

Yes, it does. They need to eat… A lot.

NTX here (East of Dallas) I started pulling my onions last week. I got my onion sets at Steve’s Nursery in Greenville. I got a great harvest. Most not as big as yours but some of them are. This is my first year to try onions and I’m pretty happy with what I ended up with.

Onions look great. Mine were early too. I had mostly nice medium sized ones ( between baseball and softball size), except my red ones…they were mostly golf ball sized. Enjoy the videos , keep em coming. Hope you’re making lots of mailbox money

Last year I planted 3 Earthboxes of onions. We ate home grown onions from March through August. This year I planted 4 Earthboxes (in October), but many of them bolted early. The big ones are 4 1/2 inches. I learned this year that some onion species are prone to bolting. I planted red creole and the all bolted (last year they didn't???). I also planted yellow granex (known to not bolt) and only a couple bolted (but they were still 4"). The yellow granex are delicious! Maybe you could do a video on non bolting onion species for next year.

Thanks for posting this. I've been thinking about planting some onions in containers next year,. We've had a foot plus of rain in the last couple of weeks. I've lost a few onions from them rotting in the ground

This one reason I love containers. Rain is just not a factor.

Nice work. I did short day and bunching onions in 5 gallon wicking tubs under Kale as an experiment and got good results. The bulb onions had various sizes and I didn't get softball sized. I think I will do bunching onions next year namely due to the small sizes of my beds in the fall

Are the tubs anything like the muck tubs at Walmart. I don't eat alot raw but I do use in my cooking. Also we have not been getting much rain here for quite a few years so watering will be a must and I will have to drain holes in .I was wondering how high the holes are from the bottom?
