This is really a great tutorial. In my first days getting started with bonsai, I bought a bunch of seeds and planted them up, and now I have about 30 seedlings in their first year. Later I found a handful of comments saying not to bother with seed growing bonsai; but this video really encouraged me to keep going with them. It might be a decade or two before they look like much, but the complete control over the development process you demonstrated is really exciting and you clearly showed how to take the tree from a tiny sapling to a majestic work of art. Thank you!

@Octopus they're all settled in for the winter :)
@Serentropic
@Serentropic 2 жыл бұрын
@Octopus I lost some of them over the year. It's hard to be sure why, but my guess is that I overwatered them in the potting soil I was using. The new seeds I'm starting are going in more coarse soil, mostly pumice. I think that would be my biggest advice from what I've learned this year: don't suffocate the roots, haha. Using a free draining medium also helps access the roots for the first root working. What are you growing?
@Serentropic
@Serentropic 2 жыл бұрын
@Octopus I've been experimenting with different fertilizers. I think what I've settled on for now is waiting until the roots are established first, and then applying consistent low-power organic fertilizer. I'm less concerned with making them grow fast; it's more about making sure they have the tools they need.

I agree, also the point of growing from seed, some trees are just not sold in sertain countries, due to laws that i still dont get (unless its a poisonous plant). And some trees are just not able to grow in some areas outside like, african or tropical trees if you live in greenland for example

Hi, your explanation is great and simple. I used 50 seeds and 36 germinated after 9 days! The only comment I would add is that the soil matters, basically almost all the seeds I put in pure akadama germinated, while only 3 out out 12 germinated from organic soil. Great job guys, Bjorn/Oscar, if you can add video like this also for other species it would be great. Thanks Enrico
