I should've known the tree would be as beautiful as it's flavor. That's a gorgeous tree and cinnamon is one of my favorite flavors.

I really loved this video. I was born and raised in an urban city, but it’s my dream to become a floriculturist and branch out to crops from there. This tree is beautiful, and cinnamon is one of my favorite spices!

I lived in Connecticut for 5 years... long ago... and my most missed thing of all is Logee's Greenhouses. If you are within a day trip..... or weekend... and a lover of all things green........... Go in mid February and bask in a little bit of tropics. It is an amazing place.

Thanks for showing how cinnamon sticks are formed. I had both cinnamon and bay leaf trees growing on my property but l only used the leaves from both of them to make tea. The bay leaf tree is completely different from the cinnamon tree. I was pleased to learn why some cinnamon sticks were soft and crumbly and some were hard. Keep up the good work. ....Aunty M

Hi, I m from Nam and recalled eating the young raw/fresh cinnamon leaves, green barks and they were sweet, hot and very aromatic. Does this Ceylon cinnamon tree have the same characteristics or just the aroma but neither sweet nor hot? Thanks 🙏

I'm growing this plant myself. What I've noticed on my plant is that the new growth lush does not always bear that nice bronze colouration- the new growth is a light green. Any tips or advice on how I could bring out the bronze colour in the new foliage?

For me, I just plant the plants in my desert sandy soil, and burying any fallen leaf under the same tree, with extremely hot climate reaching 49 and over most of the year, with that I managed to grow many fruits like banana, pomegranate, mango, figs, berries, pineapple, guava, grapes, almond, jojoba, sugar appl, mandarins, Jamaican cherry, lemon, and more

growing in desert needs a huge effort, considering hot wind, extreme sun, water evaporating, and super poor soil.

Thank you so much for this video, I found it in 2024. 😂 I live in Phoenix, AZ and we have intense heat, drought, and salty, alkaline soil here. I am thinking it might do well here if I amend the soil to become more acidic. Such a beautiful plant! I also read online that it has purple flowers, my favorite!

@LogeesPlants
@LogeesPlants 5 жыл бұрын
The pot size can get rather large. It's hard to put an exact estimate as to a pot size for a fully mature specimen. It mostly depends on the plant.

Hi there, I have a sapling that I've been growing for about a year and while I had it inside under a grow lamp it was doing fine. When summer came round I moved it outside and for a while, it was doing fine but then the leaves started browning around the edges or had spots and all new buds almost look like they get burnt. I read that this was a fungus and could be treated (witha 1% Bordeaux solution, I could only find a copper based fungicide though) but all of the leaves were infected and I also read that they all had to be removed to prevent further infection. Buds keep growing but I think I went too far removing all the infected leaves (all of them) and I'm afraid I may have killed my sapling. Do I have a chance of recovery if I treat it correctly or have I most likely overstressed the tree in my attempt at saving it? Thank you for any advice. /facepalm
@LogeesPlants
@LogeesPlants 7 жыл бұрын
Move back under the grow lamp. Check your root system for healthy live roots. If you don’t have any it may be too far gone. Don’t over water it and don’t fertilize until it has recovered.
@NJgateway
@NJgateway Жыл бұрын
Are you sure it was a fungus? Sometimes when a plant gets used to growing under a lamp and you move it outside it can get burned from the UV rays of the sun. I put a house plant outside for a couple days because we were painting inside and it killed the plant. I'm pretty certain that the UV rays killed it.

+lets go eagles Yes, you will need to let the cinnamon dry before using it.
@LogeesPlants
@LogeesPlants 8 жыл бұрын
+lets go eagles Yes it is the bark that is peeled from the trunks of cinnamon tress that have been cut hard and vigrous suckers sprout up. Once they get to a fairly good diameter they are cut and the bark is peeled. You can do the same with the braches that have thicker stems of an 1’ in diameter.

Are there hardy types of edible cinnamon? I live in Portland Oregon and a house a little ways down from us has some trees growing in the backyard. The owner says they are bay leaves but I know from the shape of the leaves it is some kind of cinnamon. They have the three central veins of cinnamon leaves and the new growth is light red similar to true cinnamon. I just can’t think what cinnamon would survive here. I have a hardy ornamental one in a pot in my backyard called Cinamomum Japonicum but it looks a little different.

Moderate to low levels of fertilizer during active growth. They are sensitive to high salt levels. They have susceptibility to iron chlorosis. Pot in an acidic potting mix: half peat moss and half perlite.

how to use the leaves?
@LogeesPlants
@LogeesPlants 6 жыл бұрын
Cinnamon leaves are most commonly used in a dried state and should be removed from the dish before consuming. They are used to flavor stews, pilafs, and curries, and dried Cinnamon leaves can often be substituted for bay leaves in many recipes. In Jamaica, Cinnamon leaves are traditionally used to flavor cornmeal porridge and jerk marinades. Cinnamon leaves are also used as a flavoring agent for baked goods and desserts. In addition to cooking, the leaves are commonly boiled and made into an herbal tea. Cinnamon leaves pair well with cloves, green cardamom, black pepper, coconut milk, pork, chicken, and lamb. Dried Cinnamon leaves will keep up to six months when stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry, and dark place.
