It is so very refreshing to have someone teach me how to do a thing QUIETLY! I was very grateful to find your video after literally running away quickly from all of the noisy, screaming videos competing with each other about how knowledgeable they are. I was searching for garlic but you are so generous to include ginger and lemongrass. I subscribe to only less than a handful of videos, but I did subscribe to yours because I was so grateful and impressed. Thank you!

In my experience garlic doesn’t like being transplanted or moved at all, I got much bigger bulbs from the cloves sown directly into soil and left alone. The ones I transplanted / moved had stunted growth. Something to be aware of!

I also sprouted garlic from HUGE garlics I had grown the year before. Large cloves sprouted a few inches. I had a miserable, poor crop in good soil with chicken manure that I always used it aged and mulched well. A different variety planted not sprouted in the area next to that one produced huge garlic bulbs.

You are absolutely right. That’s what I’m struggling right now this season. They sprout and take root beautifully in a small glass cup, when I transfer them to the soil, 2 out of 10 makes it alive

Garlic also needs to be deeper, the clove shouldn’t be above the soil. Unless you’re going to move it again and repot?? They need to be at least, bare minimum, 6” apart for the root systems and nutrients to grow as large as possible.

Check your ginger often, and water when the soil appears to start drying out, but before it does completely. If you notice poor draining, adjust watering so that you water less to avoid soggy soil, as this can cause rotting. Harvest your ginger by digging up the plant, washing it and allowing to dry thoroughly.

@Repent or you will likewise perish. The word "Sin" actually means, "to miss the mark." Making a mistake, for instance by lying or hurting someone, etc.The message isn't to punish you if you mess up, but to ENLIGHTEN YOU to your true being, which is one of love- not fear, or shame, or blame, etc. the Bible was also written by people just like you and me to try to find ways to exist and live together in their day. It was written by common men (they didn't include the one's written by women). If we were to write a Bible today, think of all of the conflicting information that would be written. The word repent means to figure life out, to admit when you get something wrong- not, you are a terrible person that needs to "beg" to God. There are so many contradictions within the Bible. Just look at Genesis... Within the first 3 chapters there are 2 different creation stories. Look how different Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John's accounts of the same thing are. You must use reason, logic, and an understanding of the history of that time before interpreting the Bible.

Just separate the cloves, don't peel them. Plant them pointy end up, cover by about 1/2 inch of soil. Plant them in the fall, check in the spring because they may have frost-heaved out of the soil. Push these back down. In August the leaves will start turning brown, dig them up, rinse, and hang them to dry before you cut off the stem. That's in zone 5.

The best way to get good soil, is to make your own from a variety of ingredients. Today I got sawdust. I will add seaweed from last week, leaves from the garden, some grit that I dug up, some collected horse manure, some dirt, some vegetable scraps, crushed egg shells, sunflower seed husks, ground up cuttlefish, coffee grounds from a cafe, some ordinary dirt, lime sand, some blood and bone, some chicken manure pellets, etc. I put all of that into an old steel drum and leave it for a year or two. Adding worms is a great idea. Cardboard is good as well. Keep it moist. A 44 gallon drum full of such a mix will provide so much high quality compost which can be mixed in with any soil. If I bought that from a shop it would be quite expensive and probably not the same quality. Otherwise, look for the best quality potting mix and add whatever things you can source. I always carry bags for collecting useful materials and a container in the car, plus a tarp etc.

@johnharrison4394
@johnharrison4394 2 жыл бұрын
Works the same for organic or non-organic. You could use lightly fertilised water but really the water is awakening the growth response. Once roots have developed, searching for nutrients, a moist rich soil, then they can begin to feed on that soil.
@shelldie8523
@shelldie8523 Жыл бұрын
Organic is just a scam since ginger and garlic don't attract pests except a particular weevil for the latter. Yes store brought is fine. Use fresh, large stock. Soak ginger in water for a day as it'll eliminate the growth retardants on it. And yea use fertilizer when planting in soil.

I grow hardneck garlic in zone 5. I plant it in October, check it in April when the snow melts and push down any that have been frost-heaved. In June, snap off the curly scapes that would form a flower. In August, the leaves start to turn brown, and I dig it, rinse it, and dry it on a clothes drying rack before cutting off the stem. Mulch is very helpful, because garlic doesn't compete well with weeds.

I’m sure the ginger was probably from a local Indian market, fresh w no growth retardant on it. In the US it isn’t easy like that unless you can find someone who has it from their garden fresh or a nearby Asian marketplace. Even organic I think has some sort of retardant on it bc it’ll grow like crazy. I can, but it takes so long it’s never ready before the cold comes and even bringing it inside it isn’t happy. It’s not happy now my one sprout bc it’s so frickin hot here In Texas.

I'm living in Denmark where I can only plant my veggies in the month of May except my garlic because I normally plant garlic every october like every autumn and I have 6 inches garlic stalks in winter time.

Check to make sure that it has healthy growth nubs on it and wash carefully to make sure that it hasn't been treated with some chemical to prevent growth. The producers are starting to do that to prevent people from growing their own.
