I think daffodils sort of get a bad rap and I’ll admit that I was very hesitant to grow daffodils in my own garden. At one point I vowed that I would never grow daffodils because I just wasn’t a fan of that typical school-bus-yellow, old-fashioned flower that I usually thought of whenever anyone mentioned 'daffodils'.
But I quickly changed my mind when I discovered how many different specialty varieties that are available to grow as cut flowers. And so today, I wanted to introduce you to a couple of my favorite daffodil varieties- show you how we plant them in our garden; how we harvest them and maybe, just maybe change your mind on adding daffodils into your own garden.

Have you tried using a drill with an auger to plant daffodils? Sure beats all that digging. Lovely flowers!

I love daffodils mroe and more each year. We have bad deer pressure, so tulips have to stick close to the house. Daffodils are my workhorse for planting in the beds and along the woods. Delnashaugh is on my list for planting this fall. That bouquet of them is so beautiful! Curious what is on your wishlist to purchase this year?!

Daffodil fever is real! Every year I tell myself I have enough but I can’t resist adding just a few more varieties to my collection! I tend to gravitate towards the creamy whites and apricot tones so I’m on the hunt for a few varieties in shades of yellow - thinking I may add ‘Tahiti’. ‘Manly’ is another favorite I’m hoping to grow! 💛✨

@@twosistersflowerfarm I like that train of thought. A moment of thinking you have enough...and then adding a few more! I tend towards the same color palette so this fall need to add in a variety that looks a little different, maybe Alexis Beauty or Queen's Day.

Do you plant anything over top of them for summer? Or is that space only designated for daffs? Also, are your bouquets straight daffodils or is there a filler flower ready at the same time?

I don’t plant anything over mine but I know plenty of people that do and it works great! I have a spot in my garden just for daffodils but I’m sure as my collection grows at some point I’ll need to plant over top of them for the space 💛 Most of the time my bouquets are straight daffodils- I love mixing the varieties together! It can be tricky finding a filler flower that blooms at the same time as daffodils but I’ve see other growers use tulips, hellebores or even pussy willow twigs and they all look amazing 🤩

Thanks for asking this. I'm putting in my first rows of dafs this fall and I'm thinking of doing a cover crop for the summer over mine I'd be interested to know if anyone does that for soil health

Is your daffodil bed only for daffodils or do you plant something else after harvesting the flowers? Thanks.

Our daffodil bed currently is only for daffodils. We're fortunate enough to have more space than what we need to grow flowers- and so I never plant anything on top of them. However, I know many flower farmers that plant annuals over their daffodils and it seems to work beautifully.

Where did you source your bulbs from?

For bulbs that I purchased retail, most came from Brent + Becky's Bulbs. More recently, I've purchased from the wholesaler, Ednie :)
