Growing Dill from Seed to Plant (40 Days Time Lapse)

Time-lapse video of growing dill in a pot from seeds. I directly sow a dill seed into potting soil and covered it. The seed stated germinating at day 5th and growing to a mature plant in 40-day.

Im using 10 inch pot by 5 inch wise. Didnt take long to germinate. Should be good to transplant in a few weeks or even grow them completely in the pot but it need more watering due to drying

5-inch wide is a bit small for it. Dill will grow big and very fast if it has enough space and water. So if you want more harvest then transplanting it to the ground or a bigger pot.

My dill stems are week and they fall on the side. What could be wrong? There is enough water and I used special soil mix for sprouts. Not enough light?

Yes, it is because of lacking of sufficient lights. It's called leggy seedling. You can try to fix it by lowering your grow light closer to your plants or moving them to somewhere has stronger light. Also, using support sticks if needed.

So the white stuff on top of the soil is okay? Search results varied between it just leading to harmless mushrooms that could grow from it and other sites saying it should be caught and removed early.

of course, dill is super strong and produce lots of seeds afterward, in fact they might be even too invasive if you don't contain them

Tapoja, I used a 8.5-inch clay pot. But it was a bit small. I would suggest a 12-inch pot for dill.

Yes, one seed only. Dill will grow very fast and big if it has enough space. One seed can outgrow a 12-inch pot quickly.

@@turnthepage867 Yes, one seed, no fertilizer. You can sprout few seeds in a pot but when they reach about 3-inch tall, you should remove most of them and keep only the healthiest one.

Diana, Nope, I didn't add any fertilizer. I used potting mix with regularly watering.

@@eLapseTime thats about right I used to work for a company that compared and tested (checked) potting mix etc and it took the same amount of time to grow Dill than it took in this video

Started off good, but then you changed camera focus from the whole plant to specific parts and kept changing angle and omitted all the times you watered other than the first. A simpler approach would have been better.
