I just received some seeds in spring. Should I wait to the end of fall to do the stratification in the cold in order to have seedlings next spring or can I take care of them indoors during the winter ?

Just learning about growing ginkgo bilboa. Need to find out if they they will grow in zone 10A. Do you pre start germination in a solution of distilled water and peroxide? I have had fantastic germination rates with this.Good luck with all you grow.

I haven't used the peroxide and distilled water but I can see where that would be helpful!

Is it possible to grow ginkgo biloba at a temperature of 20-30 degree celsius....

Do you mean year round or just summertime? Where are you interested in growing them?

I'm from Kerala,India. Tropical wet weather......with high humidity...... Temperature will be inbetween 18-30 degree celsius year-round.....

Ginkgo trees need a period of winter dormancy. I don't think they could achieve that in your area.

To get the tree you would need to contact a local nursery or grower in your area.

Wherever I read about germinating ginkgo seeds they say 8 weeks warm strat them same again for cold strat .... I'm muddled what to do now. Is that perhaps why you got half your crop? P.s. I'm in England. UK
@Growingthehomegarden4 жыл бұрын
I didn't do a warm stratification period. I think they got it naturally before I collected the seeds in mid fall. It's possible the warm stratification period could help but I was pleased with the results I had overall.

Most plant seeds are made to NOT all germ in one year, it’s a way to ensure they survive even if there’s a disaster for a few year that kills all the mature plants

Hi there! How tall your gingko trees?
@Growingthehomegarden3 жыл бұрын
Still in small pots right now. They do need transplanting.

how long do they have to be cold stratified?
@Growingthehomegarden3 жыл бұрын
I'm not 100% sure. I had the in the cold about 3 months or so, just because I collected them in fall and wasn't ready to plant until spring. That worked well.

Is there any tree expert who can tell the gender of the tree by looking at it? I know it takes some 20 years to start fruiting.

I don't know of any other way other than to identify the flower.

@@Growingthehomegarden So you have to wait 20 years...
@Growingthehomegarden3 жыл бұрын
Maybe not, just until flowering which could happen sooner. This is why many growers produce trees via grafting to know whether it's male or female.
@covfevetrump73073 жыл бұрын
I think grafted trees will be the same sex as the tree grafted from.
@andrewching89823 жыл бұрын
Male trees will have a slit down the middle while the female will lack this slit
