I loved that! I used to live in Java and we would eat kumara most days. They grew white, orange, yellow and purple. A real taste of home.

I'm having a go at growing my own this year! I thought it would be a fun personal project to learn about kumara. I have already harvested slips and will be planting them any day now. This video was really nice to see in terms of how the actual kumara plant grows and develops. It gives me a clearer idea of where I need to plant them. Many thanks!

I was sitting here all depressed because my kumara didn't grow. Now after watching your video i hink i know where i went wrong. My ground was too hard and dry and i didnt feed them. And i planted them too late. Thank you.

That's all part of growing veges, have good and not so good seasons. Prepping the soil is important with growing everything. Good luck this year!

Always got a good yield with riwai and pumpkin which we would pack away for bartering during the winter months, wrapped in newspaper and packed into tea chests.

That's awesome Mike, you definitely have a green thumb. I think because the orange ones are a softer and sweeter flesh, they are more prone to bugs. Still an excellent crop. Well done!

Yes you can but you can make a lot of slips from one tuber

I am up north and have kumara in a large pot outside ( sunny side of the whare ) and they have been there all winter doing well. But no frosts here. You can do the same inside over winter, they make nice houseplants with their heart shaped leaves. Just gradually harden them off prior to planting out in the garden.
