If anyone is wondering..this worked for me.. the seeds have started to sprout exactly after 14 days.. out of I think 50, 5 germinated so far. But I'm still happy.. I think in another 2 weeks I should be seeing a more of these sprouts.. Also I put one ziplock bag inside the house and one outside coz I wanted to test if the cold temperature helps.. both of them have 2 sprouts each.. I'll keep you posted in another 2 weeks if both perform the same way.. Update: the bag I put inside my house had 4 sprouts with leaves, I planted them and closed the bag again. The bag I put outside did not have any germinations even with the freezing temperatures outside. (Lavender seeds need to be put in refrigerator for 3 weeks traditionally for germination ).

Thank you! I love this method. Watching seeds fight for a cell just feels so wasteful. I’m going to try this method with African daisies. Their germ rate is 7-15 days rather than lavender’s 14-28. I eagerly check them 100x a day, so I’m sure it won’t be a problem for the lil cotyledons. Thanks again for this brilliance. I really appreciate it.

Hi Matthew, I am waiting for my lavender seeds to arrive and the online store here in Malaysia only sells 5 seeds per pack. I bought 4 types of lavender, namely English Lavender, Spanish Lavender in pink, purple & dark purple. I really need this to work. I watched some other videos and your video here is very clear cut. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge but I do have some questions. 1. Do I need to put the ziplock bag in the fridge for 8 weeks first and then only give the seeds some sun by putting it near the window? 2. After the seeds germinate and I transfer it to the small pots do I give it full sun or do I need to put it in shades? Here in Malaysia the weather is hot and humid with rain. Really appreciate if you help me with the questions above. Thank you.
@growwithmatthew9080
@growwithmatthew9080 3 жыл бұрын
Hey I appreciate your comment! 1. From my experience I didn't see a big difference from putting it into the fridge and not. So I would recommend the window sill from the beginning 2. In that case, gradually ease it into full sun e.g. 1 hour on 1st day, then 2 hrs, then a bit longer every day. Keep them in pots as you can move them around at ease! Beware that the water requirements may be different indoors vs outdoors climate, so you'll need to judge case by case! good luck!!!

I’ve tried planting lavender outside in the early spring, twice, with no success. Was going to give up, but your method looks doable 😅 I was wondering where you put the baggy, but you’ve answered that in another comment. What I’m wondering is what you meant by “prepare the seeds” when they are in that pan… are you soaking them first?

Hi! So I just put the seeds in tiny plastic pots and kept it sitting in water to stay wet (and kept the water clean by changing it) and I managed to get a sprout and now I'm panicking. Do I keep the soil moist and keep the bottom sitting in water for a certain amount of time? I don't wanna drown it but I also don't wanna starve it either

Hellow, this is a quick and yet very informative video. Love it! A few questions if you don't mind, where did you put the plastic bag after you added the seed? And did the plastic bags had holes or not? Last, is it okay to have more than one plant per pot? Thanks for the video!
@growwithmatthew9080
@growwithmatthew9080 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I'll try to answer as best as I can 1. I put the plastic bags at the window sill, in room temperature with moderate amount of sun during the day 2. no holes for me. just normal ziplock bags 3. I think it's better to end up with 1 plant per pot. But if you don't have enough pots to start with, you can definitely put a few in per pot, and try to separate them when they grow bigger. Because some will unfortunately die in the process

Oh man I'm going crazy. So i just started about 75 seeds (after 4-5 week cold stratification on a moist paper towel) in a seed starting tray using a mixture of all purpose potting soil and perlite. its been 12 days and nothing yet (still too early). Howeverrrrrrr, I saw your video and started 150 seeds (from the same chill seed bag) using your method. today is ONLY day THREE and I see one sprouting and has a 2 mm tiny green thing coming off of it... now I'm ecstatic and don't know what to do haha. Cant wait to see what happens. Will keep you posted and I know questions will come. Thanks so much 😸 Question: how many days after the green appears they’ll be ready to plant?
@growwithmatthew9080
@growwithmatthew9080 2 жыл бұрын
HEYYY!!! I got so excited hearing your story! I think they should be ready for planting 2-3 weeks after "green" i.e. germination. Expect at least a few cm (around 1-1.5 inches or longer!) of roots before planting them for better survival!

How old is your lavender plant? Once they have been placed in a larger pot or outside and experienced a winter or two, they will need to be pruned. Pruning is an essential part of lavender plant care. It takes years of maintaining,, overwintering, and growth for a lavender plant grown from seed to get all big and bushy!

So there is absolutely no need for refridgreation? Do i simply place it by my balcony?

Not in my case. But i've seen other people suggest the refrigerator on youtube. Worked perfectly fine for me without the fridge!

can i get your opinion on people putting seed in the fridge? do you think it necessary or not
@growwithmatthew9080
@growwithmatthew9080 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I also tried those methods myself. For the lavender seeds I tested in the fridge, the time to germination is faster, but the overall time is longer because of the extra incubation period in the fridge. So I think I'd rather do without the fridge :)

Hi Matthew, will an outdoor temperature of 34 degree Celsius be too hot for lavendar seeds. Not germinate yet.
@growwithmatthew9080

Hello Y. X , I suggest germinating indoors in the plastic bag as in the video! As to growing outdoors, 34C is a bit hot but should be fine as they are mediterranean plants anyways!

@@growwithmatthew9080 My seeds germinated in the bag indoor after 10 days. I bring the bags out in full sun for 2 hours at times during this 10 days. I'm waiting for them to have longer roots before I transplant. This is my first time and I'm excited! I hope the seedlings stay strong even after transplant!

Unfortunately all my seedlings didn't survive the transplant.. any advice or steps to increase the chances of survival? My seedlings were 2.5 weeks old.. I'm using normal potting mix from store. But weather was hot.. Should I cover the cell after transplant? Sorry for the many questions, I'm so upset that all seedlings didn't survive.

@@y.x9953 Oh dear, i'm so sorry to here that! Don't worry as it's happened to me as well. You could try to keep them away from direct sunlight as they tend to dry out quickly with an immature root system. In addition, you could try getting a humidity dome to protect your seedlings after transplant! (easy to DIY one with plastic cup / container and make your own holes in it)

I can't be sure without seeing it. But if in the beginning, you can plant the germinated seedlings as soon as you see any green! If you're talking about your plant already in soil, then in general you should repot once your plant outgrows the container! Good luck!
