I love your plant series! Found this channel with the Joshua Tree series. Do you think you'll ever try growing a giant sequoia tree? I tried growing some here in Canada after seeing them in California, but no luck lol.

Really awesome update, I'm so glad that this tree is coming back to life! These kinds of resurrections are so satisfying. Not trying to be pushy at all and certainly would hate to give advice that would wind up hurting the tree after all it's been through, but I'm just not sure that coco coir is going to sustain this thing. If it were me I'd probably look at Miracle Gro's "Cactus, Palm, & Citrus Soil." If maximum drainage is a concern there, I'd mix in some large perlite with it, but that stuff drains amazingly well. And then I'd team that up with Jack's Classic Citrus Feed (a water soluble citrus fertilizer). Anyway, really looking forward to another video on this lemon tree. This thing is going to make it and it's going to be awesome!

I wish you would transplant it into some good potting soil. I hate coco coir because it's either too wet or too dry... hard to control. It's outside so no worry about fungus gnats from potting soil. By the way, BT caterpillar killer kills fungus gnat larvae in soil... drench the soil with BT solution occasionally. About watering.... you can do a slow drip by setting a water-filled soda bottle on top the soil. Put one small hole in the bottom of the bottle and you can adjust the speed of the drip by how much you loosen the cap on the bottle. One more thing to consider, if your tap water has a lot of chlorine and you have to water a lot when it's hot, perhaps the plants are getting too much chlorine. You can mitigate that by filling containers of water to sit 24 hours allowing chlorine to dissipate and use that water as much as possible. Another thing.... when you spray for mites.... spray the UNDERSIDE of leaves, top of leaves, stems, top of soil and even the exposed surfaces of the pot itself, inside and out. How about mulching the top of the pots so they won't dry out too much though that might encourage bugs.

The chlorine is a point for the ice cream bean and the California poppies, my thirstiest plants, but the volumes of water are huge. Potting mix runs the risk of root rot unless a robust root ball is formed, and tons of fungus gnats and other pests.

Coco coir works very well in hot and dry climates because it doesn't turn hydrophobic like peat and bark based mixtures do.

Has it fruited yet?

Not yet but I got it back on the right track, it's growing leaves and stems quickly again.

In nature, trees in the ground have nutrients. Coco coir has zero nutrients. You need to pee on the tree.😂😂😂😂

If u are spraying on the leaves at sunlight, water drops might develop and work as mirrors which then leads to burning spots.
@kidcharlemagne87173 ай бұрын
that doesnt look like fertilizer burn at all, it looks like a nutrient deficiency. Your plant is growing in coco coir, you are supposed to fertigate every watering. Coco coir retains no nutrients and actually sucks them up to the mechanics of its cation sites. You can tell its deficiency and not burn because it is appears on the lower leaves and not the new growth.

Have you thought about applying Wood Vinegar (Pyroligneous Acid) on the lemon tree?
@TheMelvinWei3 ай бұрын
That's a novel suggestion to me. I'm reading about pyroligneous acid right now.

Hey i lost my old joshua tree and got some new seeds but spilt lemon juice on 5 out of 6 because there in the fridge (ive heard it good for the seeds) and thought id ask any advice for if they grow or can the live with acid i did rines the soil there cold stratifying in but im just worried because ive lost them in the past
@TheMelvinWei22 күн бұрын
Lemon seeds don't need to be stratified, you can plant them directly. I never tried planting the seeds with rinds. I don't think the acid from the rinds will last long buried in wet soil anyway.
@zanderayers101121 күн бұрын
@TheMelvinWei not lemon seeds, Joshua tree seeds I got a kit and It said cold stratification was good for the Joshua tree seeds and they sat next to the lemon juice (which i didn't know was leaking).I just asked here because it's a more recent video and I thought that you'd be more likely to answer here
@TheMelvinWei21 күн бұрын
@@zanderayers1011 I think if the Joshua tree seeds germinated and roots look white and healthy, there shouldn't be a problem. I don't know if the acidity will affect the roots since probably no one has encountered that scenario. I don't know of anyone who has tried cold stratification of Joshua seeds either, we all just planted and germinated the seeds at ambient temperature.
@zanderayers101120 күн бұрын
@@TheMelvinWei ok I just saw it increases the chance of germination and sense I've lost my first one I just want to make sure I get as many as I can

@@TheMelvinWei Yeah bro keep going, I'm also having one lemon plant which is 4 years old in 10 inch pot, which I had taken from a plant seller and I thought it was grafted but it was not. Let's see when it's gonna produce first flowering.

Now i am hearing you never innoculated it with mycorhizae? of course its failing if you didn't do the basic shit like fertilize in coco and innoculate it with the proper fungi.
