Here's a quick look at the Palo Verde, Mesquite and Desert Willow I've started from seed. I plan on planting them in the desert in the areas I hunt and camp to improve habitat and beauty at the same time.
Not sure how it will ultimately turn out but I love growing plants and gardening so I am having fun with it regardless.

Planting location and time is key to survival. Wait for the start of a rainy season and look for natural culverts or swells to place your trees also fallen logs or large boulders anywhere moisture can hide and retain, gather brush and leaves to mulch the base, all these little things help in the desert. Good luck

Thanks for the information. I'm actually planning on planting as many as I can this November which will be much cooler and hopefully the beginning of a decently wet winter. I was thinking exactly what you suggested and try to find dips or protected areas that still receive full sun. These things have grown considerably since I posted this video in May. Maybe I will post another or at least do an update months after planting them. Thanks again for watching and for the advice.🎋

Yes please post an update! I live in Southern California and am currently doing the exact same as you, trying to rehabilitate my property and get the wildlife back in the area. I’m working with Costal Oaks, Sycamore, Mesquite, Palo Verde, and Tipu Trees. The Tipu & Palo seem to grow the fastes.

I think we have the same passion and I suggest you add these two famous trees to your own collection: Acacia radiana Pistacia atlantica Greetings from the desert of Algeria.

Thank you for sharing. Yes, I absolutely love growing plants from seed or propagating from cuttings, especially the desert varieties that are native to “my” desert here, the Sonora. I appreciate your input and will definitely look into those two, both of which sound familiar. Thanks for your support 🇩🇿🇺🇸

@@desertqwest mostly I'm trying mesquite. Because I found little ones growing up around a mature one. So I dig them up and try and move them around my house. And hope they grow.🌱

@@desertqwest thank you. No rush. Whenever you get the time. Because as you probably know these little trees take a long time. 🥱 Thank you

@@markyamaguchi9571 They’re growing pretty fast for me. The ones that I left in the small containers are smaller but the ones in larger pots got a lot bigger. The desert willow trees are really growing quickly. They will have beautiful flowers too. They will grow readily in Vegas.

Hi there! How did you prep the seeds before sowing? Did you scarify? And if so, how?
@desertqwest
@desertqwest Жыл бұрын
I definitely scarified the Palo Verde by snipping a small bit off one end of the seed. The Mesquite seeds were just removed from the pods and I usually start all my seeds in between a damp paper towel but not always. Sometimes I sow directly into the soil. The Desert Willow was germinated in a wet paper towel in a baggie and then planted after sprouting. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

I'm doing the same endeavor as you are except I'm planting these desert trees along the horse trails where people run and walk thier dogs,etc. Thinking of setting up volunteers to help beautify the open areas and plants trees from seedlings.
