Interesting idea. I think you should probably pick a bigger container and leave some more room for the mushrooms to grow. Great video ✌️😊

Thank you for your very kind comment!🍄 I would like to prepare a large container, collect coffee grounds, and try again.

Very good attempt. It's impressive that you got no contamination. Trying again soon?

Sterilizing in a pressure cooker is a great way to reduce contamination. I'd love to try it again in a different methods or with different mushrooms. Thank you for your comment!🍄

Nice video. Regarding mis-shapen mushrooms. If during 'fruiting' you kept the bottles in total darkness. That could explain the wayward (mis-shapen) growth. Darkness is fine while the mycelium is incubating (before fruiting). But the mushrooms need a little light to help guide them upwards (they're seeking oxygen). Next time, during fruiting, keep the bottles in a place with indirect light. Not direct sunlight. Just enough light that you can read a page (like from a newspaper or book). Also I suspect the mushrooms could grow a little larger if given a little more time. Good luck and keep experimenting!

I am thankful for your kind advice! As you mention, the lack of light could have prevented the formation of properly shaped fruiting bodies. Also, even if the shape is bad, if the cultivation had been continued for a longer period of time, the fruit body might have grown and become larger. Next time, I would like to grow it for a longer period of time in a place that is easily exposed to indoor light without giving up.💪

Growing them for longer wouldn’t have changed their shape. The stem elongation happened because of excess CO2 in the jars. (It’s also why the growth slowed down so much when the mycelium got to the bottom of the jar, there wasn’t as much oxygen at the bottom as there was at the top) You need to remove the cotton immediately after pinning (the start of fruiting), that will reduce elongation of the stems… And, if you do plan to fruit them in light, cover the sides of your bottles with something that won’t let light pass through, otherwise you may end up getting fruiting bodies on the sides of the jars…also, enoki and shimeji tend to work better with the jar method than oysters do (and people prefer long stems with those species). If you want to grow oysters again, I’d suggest using a plastic bucket with holes drilled in and pasteurised straw/sawdust as the substrate (you can even use hardwoord fire pellets if you can’t find the previously mentioned substrates)… If you do it like that, you’ll get a lot of beautiful mushrooms (for at least three separate fruitings). Hope you keep it up, you’re video was cool✌🏼

Thank you for your valuable advice, too😊 It's very practical and helpful. I thought that if I removed the cotton, I would have to mist it frequently to maintain humidity, but if I'll try to your method (making holes in a plastic bucket), I might be able to minimize that hassle! Of course, it can also be used as a way to generate beautifully shaped fruiting bodies! I'd love to try it out once I've gathered enough material to put in bucket👍

Get a large plastic tote and place the fully colonized bottles in there. You can put a layer of perlite on the bottom before putting the jars in. Mist the sides of the container if you need more humidity, leave the lid partially open to fully open depending on the growth you see

Thank you for your kind and detailed advice! Currently, I am growing oyster mushrooms at home using a plastic bucket. I’ll take your comment into consideration, such as how to maintain humidity with a mist sprayer and how to open the lid. If all goes well, I'll be able to upload a video of my successful harvest of fruiting bodies soon🍄

Removing the tops from the bottles would have given them room to grow out , should not of left those tops on the bottles when fruiting , just my 2 cents worth. 👍

Thank you for your very helpful comment! Certainly, I think it stimulates the generation of fruiting bodies and creates space.🍄

I appreciate your comment. It seems that it is possible to grow mycelium from fruiting body without purchasing mushroom spawn. I hope to try your advice someday.

They need oxygen to fruit Just leave them open when they've colonised

@@cats.mushroomyou can open the bottles completely once you want them to fruits, just remove the cotton on top.
