Thank you!!! I have been looking for something like this! Here are my notes below: How to Grow a Giant Sunflower Soil Preparation: 1. Use organically rich soil, tested and suitable for sunflowers. 2. Add compost (leaf, grass, and some cow manure). 3. Add mushroom compost for moisture retention. 4. Mix in worm castings for extra nutrients. 5. Add slow-release nitrogen turkey manure. 6. Incorporate seaweed powder. 7. Include Urea (nitrogen-based). 8. Add alfalfa pellets. 9. Use humic acid to activate the soil and retain nutrients. 10. Apply root shield to prevent root issues. 11. Add a time-release fertilizer. Planting Seeds: 1. Ensure soil temperature is at least 50°F. 2. Directly plant seeds in the ground (do not transplant). 3. Plant multiple seeds in a 3x3 ft area. 4. Use temporary tags to mark seed locations. 5. Plant seeds about half an inch to an inch deep. 6. Space seeds sufficiently to allow for growth competition. 7. Water seeds well after planting. Maintenance: 1. Regularly water the planted seeds. 2. Use a trellis to support the growing sunflowers and prevent wind damage. 3. Monitor growth and remove weaker plants to focus on the strongest ones. Have you tried opening the shell and planting just the meat inside? I feel like it gives me faster germination and higher success rate

Yes, I actually had a sunflower a few years back that only had about 30 to 40% of shells/seeds with meat in them…. I didn’t wanna waste my time with all the empties so I broke them open and planted just the meats….. each one germinated extremely quick and successfully. In fact, I have two sunflowers in my basement right now that were of me accidentally breaking a shell and I threw them in my plants and they’re like sunflowers. Maybe I’ll showthem on a future video.

you mention that you are bringing in your soil...is it a soil that other growers can pick up somewhere?

Yes, the soil is actually quite local to me. Just a couple miles from my place. If you are in Minnesota, I would be happy to share the place with you, otherwise like I mentioned in the video, I really encourage soil testing the soil you’re going to bring in to your garden to make sure you have an idea of what you’re introducing. You can get a soil test for $25 per sample, which is extremely affordable .
