I had no idea people are saying its out of character for Alicent... ALL these characters are developed so well I think their motivations aren't just obvious but very real and weave into the story and themes so well

i agree completely! truly i believe people expected “too much”, but too much of their own ideas idek. i was very confused to see people hate it so much. and i was surprised to see people so strong in their defense of aegon and aemond?? the same people ive seen defend her every action is now turning against her bc she’s willing to sacrifice two awful men for peace and safety for her daughter, one of which is half dead already in alicents opinion it seems. i also think people forget that out opinions are affected by the modern world, while the characters are ofc affected by westeros. saw lots of ppl complaining abt rhaenyra not understanding that alicent already has sacrificed a lot, but of course to rhaenyra, alicent hasn’t. she married the king, became queen. she did what is expected of a woman in that time. but we the audience ofc understand that alicent wanted none of it and that it WAS a sacrifice. that being said, ofc there were things i could have wished were better. but considering the writers strike and hbo cutting the budget and two episodes from the season, i think they did very well. and i think the season will hold up well when we have the whole show!

@@mycomputerissadWell have either one of you read the books? if you read the books you would understand why. The character by herself is fine, but this is an adaptation and for that reason it does a terrible job in portraying both her and Rhaenyra’s characters. To put it simply, in the books both women were unapologetically evil and Alison was 100000% supportive of her stealing the throne for her son, she literally gaslights him into doing so, Aegon literally states “What kind of brother steals his sister’s birth right?” she didn’t NEED a justification and she didn’t misinterpret what the King said. She gave ZERO fucks about what he wanted and only cared about herself and giving her son the crown regardless if he wanted it or not and he sure af did not want it, she made sure only her kids had any power, and the same can be said of Rhaenyra; Both women stood on business and were about that life. Both we’re entitled selfish women and we were robbed of that by the writers. So yes, in regards to being true to her character she’s badly written, both her and Rhaenyra. On a side note: you did a wonderful job with this video.

@@Space_Cowgirl_ i have read the book (well the part about the dance at least) and i get what you’re saying, but i also think we’re too far in to still be comparing it to f&b. i mean just since they aged down alicent/aged up rhaenyra in literally episode ONE, so much changed that it made parts of the book “irrelevant” in a sense that it wouldn’t make sense for the show to go down that route. it’s an adaptation, yes, but i think they’re saying it’s more so inspired by f&b rather than a direct adaptation like game of thrones was. and especially when discussing what’s out of character in the show, it seems silly to bring up what the characters did in the books. i know lots of people are disappointed in hotd but considering how the source material is written and the fact that they wanted to make four seasons based on like… 100?? 200?? pages, i get why they made changes. when i watch hotd i try to see it as its own thing, not an adaptation. and thats how i enjoy it, and how i enjoy the characters.

This is so beautifully put together. So poetic and that soothing song also. Alicent is a very complex and realistic character to me, full of contradictions, struggles and morally grey. I feel that is why she is so hated by viewers, precisely because of how realistic she is, we are so used to unrealistic heros or super evil vilains that we despise to watch someone reminding us of our own shortcomings.
@mycomputerissad3 ай бұрын
thank you, first of all! and yes, i agree with you! i also think her being a woman plays a huge part in the hate and weird standards/expectations ppl have for her. people will hate on alicent for doing this that don’t even remotely compare to what daemon has done, but they won’t hate on daemon. she will never be enough for most viewers. either she loves her children too much, or she hates them. either she’s too lenient, or she’s abusive. it’s crazy

she is not contradictory at all.

@@mycomputerissad Thank you for making such a poetic video and making me discover such a beautiful and haunting song as well. I absolutely agree, I realized how much our society is still incredebly and subconsciously mysoginistic. Alicent is contradictory and unperfect and that is precisely what making her such an interesting and realistic character. But when you have one-dimensional unrealistic and straight-up evil characters, we can forgive them all. Especially when they are men or unrealistic women cattle to men exceptations. We also have an example in GOT where still today ppl argue that Cat or Sansa were the worst characters of the series when you have straight up criminals like Joffrey and Ramsey. That's so crazy.

thank you!! and yeah, me too. i feel like ppl had their own ideas for what would happen and were disappointed when their idea didn’t come true? idk. i wasn’t very shocked or surprised at all. since the beginning alicent has stood by rhaenyra, except for a few times. and we know she doesn’t particularly like aemond or aegon, and now she’s seen how violent aemond is, and how aegon is suffering bc of it. she wants to save her daughter and granddaughter and she’s willing to sacrifice two violent men for it. idkkkk like i like it 😭😭😭

@@mycomputerissad Yes, I agree!!! 🫶 The first season had built up that quality in Alicent, and the second season took a slow descent towards Alicent breaking free of her sons and of the system that had caged her for her entire life; not to mention her growing connection to her only daughter. I had thought it was obvious that was where it was going but I guess not lmaoo

Can't believe I didn’t post after watching this masterpiece, the chronic fatigue and the heat had me in a chokehold, but here I am! First, thank you for making me discover this amazing music! I had it on repeat, it’s so eerie and a bit disturbing to have this image of growing sideways, like branches of trees sometimes do, but I think it fits Alicent perfectly. Especially the way she realizes she gave her life away and none of it matters, like she said The opening scene in the lake is absolutely stunning. The moment she dropped the little dragon sculpture to be picked up by her younger self, this gave me chills. I really like how you overlapped different scenes, Alicent in the crypt, like these different periods of her life are all indivisibles. The one where Sunfyre is falling as Alicent is outside, ready to leave it all behind her. I think this song and your edit really encapsulate Alicent’s story in season 2, the way she has been used and this feeling of emptiness growing as she realizes she has no control or power to assert. I thought about you because Paris Paloma’s new album was released today, and it made me think of all your previous edits with her songs (I’m kindly hoping you’ll do one more with a new song of hers ;) but of course do what you prefer)

This is a gorgeous edit. It would take forever to put into words everything I love about it, so I’ll settle for a few things that stood out to me. 1: the music choice! It perfectly encapsulates everything about Alicent that’s so painful. How she’s been hurt, manipulated, abused her whole life, and how she struggles because of that suffering. I thought this was aptly shown through the shots of her in the Kingswood, because those scenes were so symbolic of her growth this season. How she begins to heal a little, the water imagery associated with Alicent symbolic of rebirth and contemplation (maybe a bit of longing for death in there as well, sadly). As always you pair the music with the perfect scenes to emphasize the themes of the show. (As a side note, I think it’s ironic how the title of the song works as allusion to “Growing Strong,” the Tyrell house words. With the Hightowers being from the Reach and with the copious amounts of generational trauma in their family, it’s a fun contrast!) 2: the audio layering is beautiful. I really love how you’ve taken lines from separate scenes and edited them overlapping a bit, especially toward the end of the edit. It adds to this overwhelming feeling-everything that has led to Alicent’s growth as a person being “sideways,” a bit crooked, a bit tortured. And what makes these moments so great is that you know how to contrast them with “quieter” scenes, where you let the silence/lyrics speak for themselves. 3: the transitions! They go crazy throughout the edit, but especially from 3:39 to 3:47. That was big brained. I also loved the overlay affect in the sept scenes at 1:05-how perfect to showcase the passage of time and what has been lost. It’s as if Alicent is haunted by her memory of Rhaenyra in that same place. It gives a very ghostlike feel to the edit

What an absolutely lovely use of her scene and story from season two. Amazing work as usual ❤️. Also Thank you for showing so much appreciation for her s2 arc, it’s so frustrating to see people who don’t seem to understand the story or her character at all criticize it. Also, if you don’t mind me asking, how do you get footage for your videos? The quality is fantastic.
