Thanks for the good info. I would really like to grow some cherries at my house. They're so delicious and they have many health benefits.

mmmm looks mighty tasty! I love about any fruit and try to grow enough for myself and the birds. They don't usually take all that much. My Red bellied woodpeckers were upsetting me getting into my peaches until I figured out what those crafty devils were doing. They pick a couple of peaches and peck out a nice sized shallow hole around the stems of the peach and then leave them. Then they return a few times during the day to eat all the tiny black bugs that infest the open wounds. HA! lol Probably helping me more than hurting my fruit. I make sure to keep them fed well so they stick around. :) Ok Ok I love my birds too. Gods little angels sent to bless us with their song. lol

I'm not seeing anyone get answers but I'll try. I am in central Alabama and would like to cross pollinate Bing and Rainer, do you see any problems with that? Also I see all kinds of video's with dwarf, but every time I go to a website that says dwarf they tell me they don't carry them, haven't found a site yet that will confirm that they have dwarfs for sale.

I have my cherry trees inside my large permanently galvanised netted chicken run, bees can get in but birds can't. The chickens and ducks fertilise the soiland no chemicals involved.

I have lots of vigrious, weedy and poisonous Cherry Laurel trees all over my yard. I wonder if I can use those as a rootstock and graft a sweet or tart cherry onto them. Does anyone know if this would work and would be safe to eat?

Cherry Laurel isnt for eating . The cherries from laurel look more like black olives and some people make candles with its oil. Its definitly not edible.

Can you eat the cherries from a sweet cherry tree? Online it says it’s extremely poison, any information on this?

Did you ever find out the answer to this? I just discovered we have a sweet cherry tree and I'm finding the same information but nothing specifying the fruit itself being toxic.

What is the Latin name? Sweet cherry can mean different trees to different people in common names.

Okay, here is what I think confused you. Sweet cherries are what you buy in the grocery store, like Bings or Black Tartarian. Obviously, they are not toxic! What is EXTREMELY toxic, is the cyanide found in the pits. All stone fruits like cherries, peaches and almonds contain cyanide in the pits except the edible almond (all other almonds are toxic). This is why cyanide smells like almonds to certain people. Hope this helps.
