Crazy thing. I bought a home a few years back. This house has fruit trees all over the land. I have two of these trees growing in a creek in our woods. I would say they are about 15' tall, maybe taller. I had no clue what they were. Wow. Thanks! By the way, I am in Florida, growing these as trees. Unbelievable

I purchased a relatively healthy looking 2' tall and maybe 6"- 8" diameter plant in back in July that had 1 little brown fuzzy bud on it that flowered in August then dropped a couple weeks later. I keep her indoors in a greenhouse with a full-spectrum light and maintain the temp and humidity to a constant 75-85 degrees and 60-70% humidity. She's doing very well and is now about 4' tall and about 2 1/2' in diameter and has over 100 little white buds on it that have just been hangin' around for nearly 2 months now with no change. I water once a week or every other week and mist twice daily with bottled Spring Water. Her soil pH ranges from 5.0 to 5.5. I've never fertilized simply because her soil NPK had always been good until now. After I re-potted her into a 2" larger pot with 50/50 peat & perlite last month, I noticed that her new growth leaves were maturing much more pale than her mature leaves and a soil re-test last week showed her Nirtogen was off-the-chart high but everything else was good - did a deep water and am hoping it'll drop without intervention. Any advise on that issue would be great however my questions are: 1- Do all the buds turn that fuzzy brown before flowering? 2 - How long does it typically take for the buds to mature and flower? 3 - After flowering, how can you tell if it has actually set fruit? and finally, 4 - How long from fruit set to berry maturity? I appreciate your time and any advise on what, if anything, I should be doing differently would be amazing.

If you haven’t feed the plant it’s unusual that the nitrogen would be high. Peat and perlite are pretty void of nutrient. That said leach it and that should take care of things. Not sure about the fuzzy brown buds. Sound like a mold of some type. The enviroment seems very humid with twice daily misting. So growing under less humidity will get rid of the fuzz. They flower or form buds on and off through the year. The bud appear as small bumps along the stem and when they open they don’t look much different. Usually from flowering to ripe fruit it’s a couple of months. The fruit is green first and then enlarges and turns red. When grown in a greenhouses they need vigrous movement to pollinate. This happens in the outside with wind and birds etc. Shaking the tree or branches when in full bloom on a regular basis will increase the fruit set.

Or use an oscillating fan on low in your grow room. Just plug it into a double adapter with your lights so the fan turns off at the same time unless your lights have an inbuilt time in which case buy a timer for your fan. That way you avoid distressing the plant by resting it from wind and light at the same time. Twice daily misting seems incredibly high especially since the plant is native to hot, dry zones. If you’re growing in a grow room you should be trying to replicate the best growing conditions for the plant which would be the native areas where it’s found wild.

It is very important to get quality, fresh seeds. Remove the brown shell from one seeds and check if they are dry. For me they sprouted from pot in cca 1 mount. I used quality custom made soil mix, which I dampened, and then I put 1 seed in individual pot (very important as replanting young seedlings can kill them as they do not have root system developed!) that was put in zipbag in warm (+20C) spot. When the seed emerged from soil I removed plastic bag and have carefully been watering the plant since. The feeling of successful germination of this plant is incredible :)

@LogeesPlants8 жыл бұрын
Check the roots and see if they are healthy and actively growing. When plants don’t grow that is the first thing to address. Next they need good light i.e. a window with some sun. and lastly they needed fertilizer although they are sensitive to high amounts. As we are at the end for the growing season you may need to wait until late winter for growth to start all other things being equal.

@LogeesPlants9 жыл бұрын
+Scott Nickerson Did they come in bare root? Is the potting mix acid i.e. without lime added? Is there a fertilizer added to the mix or have you added any fertilizer to the water or the potting mix? Leaves turning brown can be from a disturbed root system or toxicity to something in the potting mix/ water.
@Whfox9 жыл бұрын
+LogeesPlants I have been trying to grow this plant for years without any luck: Leaves start to turn brownish green from the tips, until only 1/3 of the leaf remains healty (the part with the petiole), and then the plant throws them. Looks like the leaves are rotting from inside. If the plants are kept at higher humidity then black spots appear on leaves. The usual recommended soil mix (peat moss and perlite 50/50) doesn't seem to work.
@LogeesPlants9 жыл бұрын
+LogeesPlants Could be your water i.e. city water with a lot of chlorine in it or to much fertilizer. Try using and alterative water source i.e. rainwater or water from a pond or river. Never feed when the soil is dry and then use a dilute solution.
@LogeesPlants9 жыл бұрын
+Scott Nickerson The browning can be caused by a damaged root system. If they came in bae root there is a lot of stress getting them to reestablish. It also can be your water as in to high a salt level form fertilizer or other impurities. It also can be from to much fertilizer in the potting mix. Next time you water flush the soil with clear water, that is water the plant until water pours out of the drainage holes.

Hi I got my Miracle fruit plant about a month ago and the leaves are drying out , turning brown, hardly any leaves left on the plant. What should I do, After seeing your video I checked the acidic level and it showed alcaline. Please help!
@LogeesPlants9 жыл бұрын
sandra chan It needs to be potted in a mix of peat and perlite 50/50. If it was repotted in a regular potting mix un-pot it and repot in the peat/ perlite mix. Don’t feed it, as that will only stress it more. Keep in a bright spot with some sun and water when the soil surface is dry. If your water has chlorine in it water with chlorine free water. You can do this by letting water sit out overnight in an open container.

Byron, how was the miracle fruit plant featured in this video propagated? By vegetative means (cuttings/cloning or grafting) or from seed? The reason I ask is that, where I live (England, UK), my rather un-tropical climate restricts my growing of tropicals to containers and pots. Although it depends on the species, cuttings or grafting tends to give rise to fruit sooner, and at a smaller size compared to seed. For example, if I were to try a mango from seed in a container, it would take many years of maturation before it can become capable of fruiting; even then, the fruit quality would be variable, as sexual plant reproduction (seed) introduces genetic variability. However, if I bought a named grafted dwarf mango variety, I would stand a reasonable chance of it fruiting in a pot, even here in the UK. Other species, such as coffee, can bear fruit easily in containers when propagated from seed.
@LogeesPlants7 жыл бұрын
We grow Synsepalum both from cutting and seed. Seed takes a couple of years longer to fruit generally. From seed it a 4 year process at least. The quality of the fruit is the same as there really aren’t any selected clone of Miracle fruit that I know of. it would be more like the coffee than the mango.

My plant has literally about a thousand flowers. I know that many will not produce berries and the plant itself doesn't look healthy.Is this the plants way of trying to survive; I.E. produce more seed so it's offspring can carry on?What can I do to maximize this summers crop?The plant is a bout 4 years old. It is in a rather small container but I'm afraid to move to a lager one now as I think it might go into shock and lose all the potential fruit.I do not fertilize this plant. I only water it. Should I feed it? (again, afraid I might damage something)
@LogeesPlants7 жыл бұрын
You can repot it. Be sure to use an acid potting mix, 50% peat moss and 50% perlite. It does need feed although go easy. If the plant doesn’t look good and you’ve had it for 4 years it may be because of the lack of fertilizer. Remember, it needs agitation i.e. wind or shaking to get pollination and fruit set.
