I dress up differently so people say stuff about me and i always have my hair over my face The second day of this year in middle school, for a minute, I put my hair behind my ears and my classmates stared at me in bafflement, I heard a lot of "Oh my you're so beautiful" from everybody, and I stared in shock, covered my face again and started crying. (Note, I don't like people much, I get scared by them quickly) That day forward I covered my face completely. Even more than I should. Whenever walking in halls or in places where I don't know people. Now, skip to last week, a boy who didn't know me was told by a friend about how I wanted to be his friend. Apparently he really only cared if I was cute or not. So then when he sees me at lunch in the cafeteria lining up to go eat in the classroom with other students in my class, my long black hair is over my face, my wide denim jacket with spikes and patches in display, my black tight jeans and high tops clinging onto dear life and the spiked bracelets on my wrists prominent. I start trembling and, well, crying, except nobody notices because of the hair. I can see this boy that my friend told about me to. Well, after lunch school decides to school and then in reading block, a girl who is in the same lunch block as this boy tells me that this boy called me ugly and emo during lunch. Time-skip to Gym and Matball. I actually dress up "normally." My friend C is on this boy's matball team, at least when we played matball, and when I go to kick, I see this boy putting his arms over his head like he's making a roof out of his arms, as apparently he's trying to see the kicker better. I am that kicker. Anyways I ignore this and think little of it, then go on to kick. Timeskip to day after that. I am told by my friend C that the boy didn't recognize that I was the kicker and asked him who the kicker was. This will all make sense in a minute. Timeskip to Friday and I'm coincidentally behind the boy, waiting for us to be released to Gym class. My friend E who was the one who told him that i wanted to be his friend or something waves at me and gives me her classic goofy smile. I say, "E why are you smiling at me like that haha." Then the boy turns around and sees me, I notice that his eyebrows are raised for some reason, he quickly turns back around and then I can't really get that off my mind, since rumors have already circulated that he likes me. Well lets say its the end of the day now. My friends BOMB my phone at like 4:30 which is long after dismissal and them in a group chat discuss the rumors. I mention the situation and then people start posting pictures of my actual face around school media and on school news etc etc and my status from him and his circle of friends apparently switches from "Ugly and emo" to "Pretty," somehow. I guess a lot of where the ugly comes from is our confidence in ourselves.

Same here. I was the ugly kid and I wouldn’t say I’m great looking now but people don’t look at me worse or “infantize me” and treat me like a child or I didn’t exist. I don’t regret how I was in HS, it taught me a lot about people and to be picky with friends. Btw the kickball story true. Always wanting to prove yourself. I was only ever picked first for tug a war because I was taller and stronger than my peers. Besides that, I was always last and I grew to appreciate it.

He also has a darker skin tone than others so they always make fun of him. He also got into a fight with a person who was trying to mess with him but I was glad that he knew how to defend himself. Only me and my friends act normal around him. He tends to tease people a bit but people always act sensitive towards him. But when I do the same thing, the others don't get mad at all.
