7 weeks is very young. he needs to be socialized. between now and the 12th week he learns social skills with other dogs and gets to know his surroundings. cars busses undergrounds lawnmower (okay we have snow, no mower for us right now) shopping malls everything that you need him to be relaxed at is trained best now. In Germany the puppies get shots when they are still with their mom. he will get tired very fast. walks longer than about 20 min aren't useful at that time.

How is she in and out of home?Is there time that she is relaxed and not going crazy?Describe a normal day with her if you can.

I'll try. She is 3 years now and still hyper as a puppy - sometimes even shows puppy behaviour like nibbeling your fingers or trying to lick your ears. We can take her anywhere with us without being embarassed, she behaves very good with other people and does everything we say - as long as she had at least a little training or fetch play that day. She is very protective since i was (and am again) pregnant. my husband needs no protection ;) she hides behind him sometimes. She is very good with the baby even though she had no contact with children before. If she has to stay home alone she barely destroys anything. sometimes she unpacks the garbage to find food. She also chews on the babytoys which is annoying but manageable. we clickertrained her with regular dogfood as treat, her daylie diet consists of BARF. She likes trick training alot. you could make her throw a fit indoors if you use her triggerwords for leash or hungry. when we come home it's like we've been gone forever. light rain in combination with chilly wind makes her go completely insane outside with running hindlegs before head and tumbling all over the grass which mostly happens in the garden. in the dog park she behaves like an alpha (fe)male, she walks in and is the boss imidiately - we can't get it out of her because we haven't found a more dominant adult dog until now. she is very fixated on toys, if you got a branch/ball/frisbee in your hand she will do anything you say no matter what happens around her. she isn't trained in IPO (police/guard dog training) because she is scared of loud noises (thunder, fireworks, shots fired obviously) - we don't know where that came from. her daddy is a german champion in guard dog training.

YasoSackSea Do you think someone without any experience on dogs can handle and train a malinois?

Dim i would say yes, but it really depends on how much time you can invest. 2 hours chilling at the park won't be enough though. A bad trained malinois is a nightmare to live with. I for myself never owned a dog before, my husband grew up with two, but no mali. You should try and get a young one. We looked at 2 grown ups in shelters and they where just nuts. I would recommend leaving those for professional trainers even if you feel sorry for them because they wont feel sorry for you once they find out you have no idea how to be their alpha. Mind that malinois don't respond to any kind of physical or psychological punishment very well. Any abused or neglected dog might bite but if a malinois bites he or she could tear you apart and you would not stand a chance. So never ever beat a dog, especially not a mali.

Unexpected 012 no! The breed has upright ears. Most shepards do. When they are little the ears still fall down sometimes Only mixes might have floppy or even hanging ears. Clipping and taping ears and or tails is forbidden in germany due to animal cruelty legislation.

No, she is 7/8 Belgian Shepard aka Malinois and 1/8 Dutch Shepard aka Nederlandse Herder. No German Shepard inside.

from breeders i would say. but be aware that malinois are hyper in everything they do. relax time is over as soon as something interesting comes along.

Thomas Nichols I got my baby girl off of Craigslist tbh. The people couldn't handle her at 8 weeks, but I've trained and worked with hyper dogs. I got her for free and she's a full bred. I suggest checking to see if you can get just as lucky.

I took a Malinois Puppy from the streets, someone left him and his sister there...my neighbour took his sister, and I took him...he is very energetic, something cool and interesting comes in, he may be looking like he is sleeping, but trust me, he jumps like a kangaroo, barks, runs...I love him.
