I’m in Oahu now and I saw the police memorial for the cops that were killed by diamondhead. The man was priced out of paradise after his family had been there for generations. It’s a bad situation all around

yes, i want more films about the REAL struggles in Hawai'i, current and historic. any recommendations?
@jeroengo1896 Жыл бұрын
Looks like an interesting film. Will it eventually be available for an audience outside of Hawaii? Where can the rest of us who are not on Oahu be able to view this? I’d really like to see this. Having left my sugar town over 30 years ago and I’d like to compare it to my own “growing up local” experience.

Considering that more Hawaiians live on the mainland now…. And at the very least, should be shown in Las Vegas.

@@DDB93 I thoroughly enjoyed it and could so relate to the feeling of having to leave the rock. I reacted the same way about being frustrated with my future prospects and took the plunge at 18 to go mainland. My very own family reacted that way said “why you going there? You belong here not there and this is your home! You watch mark my words you not going last you will be back” it’s been over 32+ years, only go back to visit but the deep yearning for home never leaves even though while there you feel like you betrayed your ancestors. Over all excellent movie, great actors and portrayal of “growing up local” now that I’ve been gone occasionally meet others “who grew up in Hawaii” and have discovered there are 2 types the high makamaka and do anything they can to eradicate their “ingrained local ways” and the ones like me local and not ashamed of my humble beginnings.

Nah, not all haoles are bad. I would just take each individual haole based on their behaviors and decide if they are 👎🏼. The plantation ancestors worked out their differences and came together to form local communities that included everybody for the benefit of everybody. But always have the high makamaka ones. Treat other as you would like to be treated goes a long way. Always have pride in who you are and keep it classy. That’s how you put those in their place. Mahalo 🤙🏼

Hate about what? There wasn’t any hate, there was one line where they said “ no haoles” as they got into the elevator. Why is that spreading hate? That was a depiction of a possible reality experience. That small clip was in no way propaganda or an encouragement of spreading hate.
