Growing Vegetables with Self Watering Planter l Cabbage, Lettuce and Green Onion

HODUNE

Күн бұрын

I went for grocery shopping for the first time in three weeks and I didn't want to throw away the roots.
So I planted them in self watering planters.
Having seen their growth day by day, I now actually get more joy from simply watching them grow than consuming them.

Would it help to slice off a thin layer at the bottom of the vegetable to reduce bacteria and encourage root growth?

I'm glad to see someone else repurposes water bottles for growing plants! I use water bottles in a very similar fashion for rooting African violet leaves. I use sphagnum moss for my wick and regular potting soil, and keep the bottoms half or less full of water. Works very well!

a helpful tip for celery and lettuces: As you see they sprout new growth from the middle. Try removing leave from the outside first until there are only a few in the middle. Then root or plant. This should make it even easier to grow!

I have been using these types of planters to root cuttings. I love them so much! I group them so that exposed roots are hidden from the sunlight, but when I water I can check to see how they're coming along. When the roots go through to the water it's time to repot.

Enjoyed watching the plant tutorial, but then I saw your puppy and oh my what a cutie. You did a great job grooming. I have 5 rescues. One Bichon, one Maltese, and three Havanese. I have totally messed up horribly every time I tried to groom them myself. I never even tried the Maltese, because her name is Maddie the Mad Maltese, and she lives up to that name. She has been kicked out of every groomer until I finally found someone who does a great job, and Maddie doesn’t even bite her. She even lets her put ponytails in. I wish I had more windows, I would love trying to grow especially the lettuce

I have tried methods of growing root crops inside before but the space it takes to support the plant never seems to yield enough to make it worthwhile to me. You have a large, open window and you utilize soil, so that’s helpful. Lovely.
