I knew an old boy that did this for a friend. He nurtured it for 12 years then sadly passed away. A few weeks later the wisteria flowered for the first time. Every spring the wisteria flowers they have a BBQ in his memory.

@MoneyPit Jku it could take years for blooming unless you graft from a tree with blooms
@cattfishing4 жыл бұрын
@MoneyPit Jku well, I got one of my 2 to bloom the first year. But it died right after. The poor thing got stressed out from the drought we had and didn't get enough water, while at the same time kept getting blown over in its pot by the nasty winds we kept having. Ive heard of some people forcing blooms, but I definitely don't recommend purposely stressing your wisteria to this extent. But it seems my wisteria went into reproduction mode knowing it was going to die. Possibly. That's just my opinion. I can't imagine a other reason such a small and young wisteria going into full bloom out of nowhere like it did. I don't think it's completely dead, thankfully as I think I see some little leaf buds growing on some branches/vines. Fingers crossed.

I have a wisteria plant that I have had for about 11 years. I have on it right now about 100 seed pods hanging from it. They have 3-4 seeds in each pod. It is mid July here, I leave them hanging until October then get them down and usually throw them away as I don't know what to do with them. Maybe now I'll try to start planting more around the yard. But I just have too many see pods. Thanks for the information in your video.

how long does it take to bloom if grown from seed?
@WebbyWunda8 жыл бұрын
Wisteria don't 'come true' from seed, so your seedlings will be different. They might flower like the original does, better than it, or worse, or even not at all. They might start flowering the very first year, take several years to get going, or never bloom at all... Wisteria cuttings (using this year's growth) will guarantee it will have the same characteristics as the original plant. You might have to wait several years for blooms, like he did. Hopefully your plant is better than his, though it's better to snip flower buds off for the first year to encourage root production instead.

@WebbyWunda8 жыл бұрын
Wisteria don't 'come true' from seed, so seedlings will vary, being as good as the original, better than it, or worse. The racemes (flowers) will likely be different in size, quality and quantity, possibly color as well. Some wisteria seedlings will flower in their very first spring, but some plants take many years, and some refuse to bloom at all... Cuttings (using this year's growth) produce new plants with the same characteristics as the original so it's a much better option with wisteria. If they try to bloom the first year, it's better to forego the fun and carefully snip off flower buds to encourage root production.
