I visit my daughter in Phoenix every year around Valentine’s Day to plant her garden, and I’ve had a difficult time finding starts The only place I can find them is Home Depot and Walmart, and there hasn’t been much to choose from. Abby Lee Farms (I'll be teaching a class there on the 13th if you're in town abbyleeaz.com/book-now/classes/#start-booking-classes ) A&P Nurseries in the East Valley, Summerwinds nurseries (several locations) Villardi Gardens also has pop up shops in the farmer's markets if you follow them on Instagram you'll know when and where.

Thank you for this! I just moved to Arizona from DC, and I feel like I’m on another planet! Is to too late to start my vegetable and herb garden from seed?

Welcome to Arizona. It just depends. It's too late for things like peppers and tomatoes but seeds are fine for many other things. Check my blog for more details. growinginthegarden.com/arizona-garden-in-february/

I've heard good things about Tanks Green Stuff there in Tucson. Here in Phoenix I recommend Arizona Worm Farm. You may also find locally made compost at a local nursery.

Similar - but our frost dates are different. We do face similar challenges with the heat in the summers.

Can you really plant corn, melons, basil, and grapes this early? Everything I see online says they need warm soil. I know after last frost date they could do well but I live in Mesa and apparently my last frost is in April.
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden Жыл бұрын
Typically last frost is mid-February - you can learn more here: growinginthegarden.com/when-to-plant-your-garden-how-to-find-a-planting-calendar-for-your-area/

@@GrowingInTheGarden Very helpful, and thank you for responding. I said April because I read a University of Arizona Article that said last frost for my part of Mesa was in April. I could just do as your link said and ask my local nursery that’s 5 min away.

i heard that at Arizona , water is limited, not allow using water in garden, or you will get big fine. is that true? that restrain me from moving there!

Water is a valuable resource and we do have to pay for it, but we aren't fined for using it in our gardens.

I planted corn from seed in winter garden. Plants look good but no corn. Should I abandon completely and replant from seed or stick with them since they are established
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden 3 жыл бұрын
Corn is a warm loving crop. I'm not sure what your corn will do. If you have a different area to plant in you could add more corn. I would avoid planting more corn in the same location.

No, our growing seasons are so short it's best to start with transplants so you can get a head start on the season.

The rose leaves can harbor disease, it's best to mulch with something else.
