Your videos are immensely helpful! I am totally flabbergasted by some of my plants. My cabbage and cauliflower won't form heads (too hot now?), my mulberry tree has some yellow patches of leaves (too much water or too little?) and my zucchinis are so puny it's hilarious. My cucumbers have numerous flowers but no fruits forming. Its my first year arizona gardening and I"m learning that maybe Fall gardening will be more successful for me! I am managing to keep all these plants alive though, which is quite an accomplishment considering zero rain and triple digits.

Thank you so much, I appreciate your kind words. My advice for containers is always get as large of a container as possible and fill it all the way with good soil. Hot summers make gardening a challenge for sure. Thanks for watching and hello from Arizona 🌵

I planted my sweet potato slips given to me last month but the lizards ate them up. Next year I'll cage them. I did not suspect that the lizards would eat them. I have found they will eat anything young. Any tips on how to keep the lizards from chewing stuff to the ground (without hurting them) would be helpful. Thanks

What types of fertilizer do you use to get the flowers to bloom in June? I planted my flowers in March after 3-4 weeks the flowers are gone. Doesn't look pretty anymore 🙁
@GrowingInTheGarden Жыл бұрын
I don't use a lot of fertilizer - I do add lots of compost to my soil regularly, I think that helps. Each year is so different.

None of my plants are doing anything. My tomatoes aren’t setting. Neither are my three tomatillo plants. Do you think fertilizing would help right now? Is it too hot? I’m in buckeye. I’m so jealous of your garden. It’s beautiful!
@GrowingInTheGarden4 жыл бұрын
June is the toughest months for us low desert gardeners. They are probably going into summer dormancy and trying to stay alive. If they stay alive through June, when the humidity of the monsoon comes they should perk up a bit. If they don't, then try planting again in late July or August. I wouldn't fertilize anything right now. Hang in there.
@jocelynsoria25904 жыл бұрын
Growing In The Garden oooook no fertilizer. I figured it might be a bad time. Everything is definitely alive, so we will see. Thanks for your help!

Such a helpful video! Your garden is absolutely gorgeous. One question. U mentioned needing to harvest the Roma tomatoes when they turn pink to prevent the birds from getting them. So I’m guessing they’ll continue to ripen after being picked? Just keep at room temp?
@GrowingInTheGarden4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have a basket I keep them in on the counter. Tomatoes ripen quickest if you put them stem side down (which with Roma's is nearly impossible) but Roma's will ripen up within a day or two.

This is what I use amzn.to/3gKr9DH - you may have to replace them often at first, but once you break the reproductive cycle it slows them down.

Your green beans looked like they were sun burned. Do you let these continue and try to thrive or do you pull them? I have a bean bed that's starting to look a little sunburned and Im not sure if I should just pull them all and replant in another location with a little more shade.
@GrowingInTheGarden4 жыл бұрын
Got several good harvests from these plants, but it's getting too hot for regular bush beans to do well. So if they are struggling (as these are) then I pull them. You can't replant the beans in another location. They don't transplant well. You could try giving them some shade where they are and see how they do.

@GrowingInTheGarden Жыл бұрын
I've had better luck with not soaking. They do like warm temps so a heat mat may help.
