"I have less casualties with cocopeat" 😂You made my day today! ❤ But, seriously talking, I always admire people who can take care of so many plants. I limited myself up to 20 outdoor trees, shrubs and flowers and up to 5 indoor plants and they all succulents. Then, this summer I found information that I can propogate succulents from leaves;so, I decided to give it a try. OMG, now my head is spinning around - who do I check first, which plants do I need to water, move them from window to window. Looking forward to upcoming winter, when at least I don’t need to worry about outdoor plants. Checking leaves pretty much every other day for roots or babies, separate them. Life became very busy.

I love your propagation videos! I am crazy about propagating. Sometimes when I go to the store and I see a plant that I want and if I can find a leaf that has fallen or I ask if I can pluck one leaf and they let me I would rather propagate it than buy it!! (I always always ask permission) So if my mother leave has fallen off and there are absolutely no roots just lay it on top of damp soil, not wet soil. Gotcha. Also when I have these huge giant thick pink aerial roots and I cover them up with soil they always pop back out of the soil LOL it doesn't matter how wet I keep it so I am actually going to dig a hole on those ones today and bury them like that rather than just putting soil on top of them. My babies grow fast like yours so I must be doing something right and every time you do a propagation video you just make me feel so confident in myself lol❤️❤️❤️

Hello Liz...I believe you can properly be called a "hoarder"...LOL...but of the best kind! Do you even have a place to sit down and eat...or sleep...or walk? And your husband must be the most understanding husband ever to walk on this earth! When they made you, they certainly threw away the mold, because even the best succulent nurseries do not have the enormous inventory as you, one little lady, of which you certainly have bragging rights to. I bet there are even plants in your bathtub, or at least in your bathroom, watching you in your most intimate doings. But I love you, one jewel that sparkles from within and from without! Hi Liz! I have had lots of success propagating various echeveria by "chopping the head off", like you showed in this video, but my leaf propagations have been less successful. The leaves always grow lots of strong, large roots, but never any new leaves/baby plants. Do you have any suggestions? I've tried having them in trays of soil in my south facing window, as well as under a grow light. Thanks!
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK 11 ай бұрын
Some variety, some TIME, only grows roots. In other times, they grow pups. Putting the leaves on top of paper towel and nothing else and under a lamp with constant moderate temperature helps. Only put them in soil once pup and roots are prominent. Good luck!

Hello! Love you videos! Learning a lot from all your vlogs! I was wondering how your succulent in the videos got root rot from previous owner not watering them and keeping them very dry? I tend to do that with my succulents since I so scared of root rot:( when I receive succulents in the mail I do soak the dried roots with seaweed and water before planting them. Should I water them regularly instead of waiting for signs that they really need water?
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Жыл бұрын
When and if the soil dries up, succulent will take water from anywhere it can, including itself. Therefore, the root rot. Succulents need regular watering. You just have to "let the soil dry up" between watering, but not too dry that the plant will show sign of dehydration.

It might have to do with the dormancy of the succulent you're trying to propagate. For most succulents, pluck the leaves at the end of summer. Autumn, Winter & Spring is the best germinating time. Depending on the species, just give it some time and it'll happen.🥰

God Bless You Liz❣️🌹 P.S. Thank you, I appreciate it! 🙏🙌😇❤️ P.S.S I've seen other YT Vids of people using Succulent "Root Booster" they dip a Q-tip into the bottle then wipe it up & down the Succulent stems after leaves have been plucked off and, also using it to spray (mist) over propagating leaves. So Liz ( I can’t stop watching your videos! your enthusiasm and fun loving personality is so warm and I just want to be your friend lol ) anyway these videos will have to do… my QUESTION is can we do a shortened 123 version? Lol as I understand step one - pluck the leaves and place on paper or cardboard with no water and place in bright light about a week Step 2- after a week or so place on damp coco peat Step 3 do I water when placed on peat? And bright light? No cover correct? Step 4 keep lights bright and watering every day? I’ve been having less that desirable results with my leaf propagation- I do have one PVN leaf that looks promising but my stump and head are going strong yay! I just need a little help with directions on the leafs- I’ve watched so many of your and a few others but I remain unsure ( I’m usually VERY good with directions lol)
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK 3 жыл бұрын
Step 123 is how a lot of unsuccessful propagation happens as each individual variety of succulent(For ex. Echeveria) have different growing needs and different 123....LOL You can pluck a leaf from an Echeveria Laui and wait for it to grow and sometimes when plucked in the wrong season can take a long time to germinate. On the other hand, If you plucked a leaf from an Echeveria Afterglow....it will never germinate. At least not in my experience. Now we have different species like Graptopetalum, Pachyphytum, Aeonium, Graptoveria. Pacheveria, Sedum, Aloe, Crassula, etc....Just to name a few and 123 won't do. Now when it comes to watering, soil mix, acclimatization; just to mention some topics....They all have different treatments as well. And they say succulents are so easy to grow....LOL

It all depends on the succulents. Not all succulent will grow from leaves. Growing them under a lot of light also helps germinate them faster. Doesn't have to be a grow light. Even an LED lamp will encourage faster growth.

I am obsessed with all your videos! Never worry that they’re too long - I am always sad when they end! I grow a ton of succulents in my basement greenhouse and have a lot of prop trays under grow lights. They’re doing well but it’s very hard to water 200+ pups with a squirt bottle, and I find that a regular watering can is too forceful and messes up the soil and makes a mess. Can you tell me what your sprayer there is called, and/or where you got it? I would also be very interested in a video about liquid fertilizer, especially on baby/young plants. Thank you for your funny and informative videos!! I watch them every morning with my coffee!

There's no guarantee or a way "to be sure" that something will grow or not even if you 'TRY' to do everything right. Sedum jelly beans pup up quickly but if you soak them in water....they won't. Agavoides varies on the variety but can't be sure if all or none or some will pup up or not. 9:57 on the video or Miranda/Prolifera is an agavoides. One just have to wait and see.

Once they have roots, you can transplant them in their own soil. It's just a matter of managing the watering since baby plants requires frequent watering than mature plants.

Hi Liz! Love all of your videos, have watched them all, and I especially love the longer ones. Quick question, if you have time to give. How much do you think different climates (humid versus arid) affect how and how much babies and leaf props should be watered? It’s humid here and I’m always afraid to get the leaves wet. Thank you!
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jennifer, You ask a very difficult question that needs a half hour video explanation which I did in dribs and drabs on different videos, but lets see how I go... Here in Canberra at the moment, rain is 70%, the temperature is 18°C and we have 81% humidity. I have a couple of echeverias that had too much to drink. We have more rainy days to come. I also have some that I'm soaking in rain water up to now. They've been in there for 3 days. If the mature plant is nice and plump, then you don't need to water and if humidity is high, its best to keep them on the dry side and only water them when the weather cools down and when they're showing signs of dehydration. (always check what the weather is doing). Root rot happens when the "leaves get wet and the roots stay dry." If the roots are absorbing water, this stops the leaves from absorbing water. Less chance of rot rot. And always make sure no contact between the leaves and the soil. Best to use some top dressings that doesn't hold moisture. Glazed pots are a no no unless you got good draining soil. A porous pot is better. Also hot days and high humidity spell disaster when succs got too much water because they'll boil and the plant melts and die.(keep dry in humid days) The propagated babies with roots I water everyday or two depending how dry the top soil gets. They can take in more water when they're young compared to the oldies.

It all depends on your soil type, the plant and where it's planted. Rule of thumb is to let the soil dry up before watering again.

Hi Liz, thank you for your informative videos! I'm a little confused with lavender pebble leaves and when to put them in soil. I was given 3 leaves. Two had tiny little roots so I rested them on soil and misted (the person who gave them to me told me to do that). One rotted and died :( The other leaf didn't rot and has 3 roots and still resting on soil. Should I take it out of the soil until it has more roots and pups? How often do you mist then once you put them in soil? Thank you so much for any help!
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK 3 жыл бұрын
The only ones I mist/water(PREFER) are the ones that are rooted and have a pup. I never water/mist/wet them until the babies and roots pop out. Then I water my rooted baby lavender pebbles everyday since I grow them in coco peat until they're big enough to go into my master soil mix...then I water when the soil is dry or the pot is light.
