I'm from Dehradun. Rober caves use to be one of the prettiest but after people coming and visiting all over the country made it less attractive. I can assure you these all people are not from Uttrakhand. They all are out sider and to which we people from Uttrakhand don't like them

If you wanted to explore Himalayas then Dehradun shouldn't be your choice, its basically a capital city in foothills. Even Indians don't prefer to go there, main attraction is Mussorie near Dehradun. Nainital in the same province is far better than Mussorie. If you wanted to stick to touristy places than Shimla and Manali is very good in neighbouring province of Himachal. And beside that, there're so many stunning places to see in interiors of Himalayas which are also easily accessible. Shimla probably is closest at 5 hour distance, after which you can continue for Punjab. Next to Dehradun is famous Rishikesh and Haridwar, though in foothills but very popular for riverside resorts and Hindu pilgrimage. You seem to missed that too.
