Wishing all my subscribers and viewers an advanced HAPPY NEW YEAR! Thanks for watching my videos over the years (this year was my 10TH ANNIVERSARY on youtube). Thanks to everyone who leave me messages and of course my regular viewers who always leave me a message. I do read them all and I try to reply to all of you, it just takes me a little time to get through them all!
WARNING:
Please do not enter motor rooms - it would be very irresponsible of me to show you stuff like this on my channel without a warning. KZbin is a public platform, so enjoy viewing but please don't copy.
THIS VIDEO:
This is what my channel is all about - If "I" don't find it interesting then it doesn't get uploaded. I've been sitting on some of this footage for a year before finally going back and get the footage that I required!
Welcome to another video from mrmattandmrchay - The GGGROWLING LIFTCRAN LIFTS!
Notice the "01" for London phone number at the end of the video? This dates these lifts from the 1980s.
Some history for you...
##########
*6th MAY 1990 - NEW LONDON TELEPHONE CODES
Inner London codes were changed from 01 to 071 and outer London codes were changed from 01 to 081. This was the biggest change to the London telephone numbering scheme since All Figure Dialling was introduced back in 1966. This was the first of the changes to free up more telephone numbers to meet increased demand.
*22 November 1994 - Caller Display Introduced
*22 April 2000 - The Big Number
The third main change of telephone codes saw the introduction of an extra 7 in mobile numbers as well as new codes for several cities. London codes were changed from 0171/0181 to 0207/0208.

Guessing by the age of this Lift, the Controller is probably made by Thames Valley Controls (TVC), and its the two speed model. It could also be a custom one from Liftcran, but many generic Lift Companies were using TVCs at that time.

@@mrmattandmrchay I agree - however, I think that the building may have now changed ownership because a lot of the black stuff that prevents people from seeing inside the store has somehow been scraped off. @@mrmattandmrchay This might not be true, but I think the lift is making these noises because of the amount of use it's had. I'm surprised these lifts are that busy in the first place! These lifts are going to eventually end up being like the lift in M&S - noisy, but rare, and eventually modernised or abandoned. I think these lifts will get abandoned as the car park looks like it should have been demolished by now.

Star and delta contractors could have been inadvertently reversed during modernisation? I was on a job installing a new supply cable to a lift panel where the star and delta contractors were incorrectly labelled, and operated in the reverse sequence (start in delta, run in star) which reduces the torque to 1/3 of the delta torque
@julianpiper240

I may have mentioned this before also, but open delta configuration will result in a power 66.7% of the rated power output. Could be an open winding or burned winding etc.

Speaking of lifts with attitude and "personality", have you ever seen the Dutch 1983 horror movie "De Lift" (The Lift)? It's about an elevator system in an office building that seems to have gotten a mind of its own and starts killing off its passengers! So an elevator mechanic is send in to inspect the elevator but nothing out of the ordinary can be found. Then, a security guard gets his head decapitated... Yes, it's ridiculous but its one of the better Dutch horror movies out there and is considered a classic. There's also an American 2001 remake called "Down" and its even more ridiculous and over the top than the Dutch version however the movie didn't do very well. I say go watch it you're curious but I recommend watching the Dutch version first. The movie "De Lift" can be watched on KZbin here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXmuaYeOeb-Gi5I without English subtitles, or here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXnCZmWwaLF2h6M with English subtitles but the audio seems to be muted for one minute at the beginning.

Definitly hear some relays but only a few. My guess it’s some early solid state controller. The lifts are in not so good condition, I see some oil leaks on the ground below the right lift’s motor. It also sounds like the motors need a revision, something sound really worn on them, like the bushes of an old vacuum cleaner motor or perhaps some worn out bearings. I wonder how well these lifts are looked after. Owner saving some money here?
@uzaiyaro
@uzaiyaro 5 жыл бұрын
dykodesigns2yt probably contractors you’re hearing. Even with brand new lifts, there will be some relays and contractors to control the power supplies. They won’t be relay logic, but there will be some of the stuff in there to do certain things, mainly power supply switching.

@@mrmattandmrchay Thinking about it, that piece of metal may actually be from the shopping centre. I went to Wellington House as it was open for the christmas celebrations in slough town centre, got there, one lift decomissioned and two lifts working. There is a very small chance that they confused the name of the building (as it is attached to the shopping centre) and the motor or motor mount may be from the decommisioned lift. The lifts themselves have a chequered past. Otis nameplate at the bottom by the doors, button panel from lift specialists ltd, maintained by thyssenkrupp and the centre have put a sign saying kone!!!
